Very similar to Choate, Hill's Weber teams were a QB away from being regular semifinal teams.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:37 amThe fact that Weber was nationally competitive is a credit to Jay Hill. His teams always played to the max of their talents. Look at where they were before and after Hill. I don’t think he got out coached, our teams just generally had more talent under Vigen, and even then, those were very close games. Hill went 3-3 against MSU, never lost to Choate. I guess I don’t see how they underperformed, unless you’re blaming the long snapper mishaps on him. Furthermore, he’s completely turned around BYU’s defense.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:03 amI used to think Jay Hill was a premier coach in the Big Sky, then I got to watch him coach against the Cats. He was always outcoached by our guys. His team regularly underperformed. I didn’t go back and look, but has Weber ever made a semifinals game? I am not ever sure they were ever regular quarterfinal participants.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:56 amYeah, he inherited a total mess at Weber after Jody Sears was there. And now Weber is a total mess again after he left. Not sure how he can possibly be described as overrated as a head coach. He wouldn't be a "splashy" hire for USU but I think he'd win there.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 8:41 amOverrated? People love on Choate here, myself included, but Jay Hill is a better coach than Choate.

Choate only coached against Hill twice. Both games in Choate’s first two seasons where he was building the program. Vigen is undefeated against Hill.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:16 amJay Hill's Weber teams went undefeated against Jeff Choate's MSU teams. Vigen beat Hill a few times but those were all competitive games and at least one should have been a Weber win if not for the long snapper meltdown.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:03 amI used to think Jay Hill was a premier coach in the Big Sky, then I got to watch him coach against the Cats. Every time we played Weber, we knew they were loaded. But there was always head scratching coaching moves - especially on offense. His teams always under performed in the post season.
Maybe he will be a great fit given his familiarity with coaching in LDS areas. But I think he is still a big question mark.

If Vigen leaves, I’d be thrilled if MSU could hire Hill. I know that won’t happen. But he is a tremendous coach.

SDSU alum Isaiah Davis scored a TD today for the Jets on a shovel pass from Karen Rodgers.

This is probably as close as he’ll get to taking a shot at the Griz. You can tell he wants to be someone who handles himself different from them, in the way he loses and the way he wins. I really respect the attitude and class he has, while still being a fierce competitor.saintcat40 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 4:20 pmI don’t know how to post pictures on here, but my son sent me an interesting photo of Tommy from Tommy’s instagram page. Tommy is an impressive leader.
I am also very glad that our program is led by guys like Tommy, Brody, and Vigen, rather than Hauck and his jerk culture. The difference in culture is evident to certain players and recruits as well, I have to believe it’s a huge reason for why guys like Adam Jones and other in state recruits are choosing MSU. I hope in Tommy’s absence we have guys who continue to handle themselves this way and keep pushing a positive culture.

A. He wouldn't do that.
B. It's kind of a cool quote.
C. He wouldn't take a shot at the alma mater of someone very important to him. Someone that bleeds maroon and silver.

It might not be, but I respectfully disagree. The quote is awesome, but seems to me like the message is pretty clear, basically saying he’s not going to stoop down to their level, even when he beats them. Could be a misread on my part, Tommy definitely isn’t one to take shots at people, but I do believe he has pride in handling himself different than the way their team does. Just my thoughts. Thanks AFCAT for the picturelutecat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 6:41 amI don't think this is a shot or anything close to it, at the griz.BornBobcat2000 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 11:02 pmThis is probably as close as he’ll get to taking a shot at the Griz. And then he would have moved to inside linebacker. And we would have to have the debate over who was the greatest Bobcat - Troy or Tommy!BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:12 amOnly for a year or two, and then would have switched him to QB, and then back.AFCAT wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 11:05 amChoate would have made him a safety too.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2024 8:12 amHe would have been a safety, and likely a darn good one.
