Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
The NCAA clearly has legal standing to enforce conference alignment. It's pretty absurd for you to even suggest otherwise. The NFL, NBA, MLB and every single other athletic organization do so. (The reason it's not a violation of anti-trust is that theres a compelling argument for competitive reasons which benefits the consumers of the sport).
Its when you make wildly inaccurate assertions like this that makes me suspect you don't understand how this works.
If the NCAA can organize a college football or basketball playoff and sign a TV contract with a TV network giving conference champs an auto bid...then the NCAA clearly has the legal authority to set limits on the size and/or makeup of those conferences.
Just like the NFL or the Montana High School Sports Association.
The NCAA is only losing lawsuits when it comes to things that they clearly don't have authority to do, such as govern the NIL of players off the field. Or to enforce arbitrary restrictions on players.
But theres zero dispute that the NCAA could regulate conference size or membership the same way that the NCAA regulates things like academic requirements or eligibility requirements or rules regarding the way the game is played.
So, yes, sorry brah, but you have zero idea what you are talking about.
The NCAA CHOOSES not to regulate conferences becasue the member schools of those conferences have a lot of power to influence how the NCAA chooses to regulate its members.

Go ahead and read this article (page 3, paragraph 2 or the conclusion):

It's a student work but well researched.

I don't see anything in there that contradicts anything I've said.WetBreeches wrote: ↑Sat Dec 21, 2024 3:11 pmKeep playing checkers...

Lots of rumors floating around today about Wazzu waiting to announce their coach in January, and that it’s very likely Vigen will be taking that job.

Have heard/ seen some of that too. If the thing about them cutting scholarships and that dickert had built in pay cuts coming in the contract, do we really think he would take that job? I mean, he'll still get a big raise but it feels like that program is on the way down and will stay down for awhile. I don't know. Easy for me to spend his money but do you just take the pay check knowing you're not going to be competitive and that you'll have to have a career reset in 4 or 5 years? I don't know the answer.

I don’t think he takes the job. Sounds more like a rebuild - a Choate special.

Is the multi-year rebuild even a thing anymore in the modern landscape of college football? WSU seems like a decent job to me, you've got a year playing as an Independent to recruit and rebuild the roster before the new Pac-12 starts playing in 2026. Most of the other teams in that league are historically at or below WSU's level, so they'll no longer be going up against the likes of Oregon and USC who have way more money to throw around than they do. Vigen could also offer his assistants much more competitive salaries by moving there than he ever will be able to in Bozeman. That said I really hope they announce someone else tomorrow and we can all stop talking about this!Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:04 pmI don’t think he takes the job. Be nice to figure it out sooner then later if it is the case he’s splitting. Will need, to hopefully hire within and do it ASAP, to maintain some talent.

i don't see Choate until he proves he can rebuild at UNR. He gets no credibility to move up to Pac2 until he does something as a head coach at a bad MW school.Common Cat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 8:04 pmI don’t think he takes the job. Sounds more like a rebuild - a Choate special.
2 or 3 years from now and reaching Tidy Bowl game, maybe.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
WSU job is definitely better than any Mountain West job except for maybe UNLV. Schools left the MW to join the new PAC for a reason. It may not be a P5/P4 conference anymore, but definitely will be one of the top G5 conferences in the country.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 7:35 pmHave heard/ seen some of that too. Brint Whalberg and Shaun Rainey re-tweeting a tweet from a known troll account. Wouldn’t take much from it…plus why would they meet in Vegas to discuss an offer?

Never even saw their re-tweets. Yea, that account is an absolute joke and it’s I’m surprised Brint fell for that one, Shaun doesn’t surprise me though

I’m 99.9% sure - based on a conversation by people that would know - that Vigen isn’t going to Wazzu.SparkCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:25 pmNever even saw their re-tweets. Yea, that account is an absolute joke and it’s I’m surprised Brint fell for that one, Shaun doesn’t surprise me though
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

I double checked and they both reposted the one from the same account. There’s also a thread on Reddit, some guy started saying he was talking to Bobcat players at the airport and they told him Vigen was taking the job. Seems suspect to me.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
I saw that thread, the original post is highly suspect because it doesn’t make sense to have ran into Cats players at the airport today. But a lot of the comments are interesting because they all seem to also point in that direction.LoggerCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:34 pmSparkCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:25 pmNever even saw their re-tweets. I don’t know…. Gotta love this time of year with the coaching carousel and portal business.

All stuff to worry about on 01/07/25.
Vigen will absolutely move on sooner or later, and when he does, I will thank him for where he has taken the program.
Which right now is Frisco … again.

I hope some day he cashes in on a massive pay day, but for now, I hope he stays and enjoys raising his family in one of the coolest towns in the West.LoggerCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:37 pmMusic to my ears.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:32 pmI’m 99.9% sure - based on a conversation by people that would know - that Vigen isn’t going to Wazzu.SparkCat wrote: ↑Sun Dec 22, 2024 10:25 pmNever even saw their re-tweets. Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
Reports on X that he was in Vegas today meeting with Wazzu. If true, I wonder if they met there because they want to talk with Choate as well.
Punters are people too!!
