Lots of rumors floating around today about Wazzu waiting to announce their coach in January, and that it’s very likely Vigen will be taking that job.

Brint Whalberg and Shaun Rainey re-tweeting a tweet from a known troll account. Wouldn’t take much from it…plus why would they meet in Vegas to discuss an offer?
Never even saw their re-tweets. Yea, that account is an absolute joke and it’s I’m surprised Brint fell for that one, Shaun doesn’t surprise me though
I’m 99.9% sure - based on a conversation by people that would know - that Vigen isn’t going to Wazzu.
So where is he going?

Vigen is a great coach. He would be missed but the culture and tradition is set in stone. If he does leave I hope Bobby Daly gets bumped up and I could see him sticking around for a longgg time (unless it gets ugly around here).

I double checked and they both reposted the one from the same account. There’s also a thread on Reddit, some guy started saying he was talking to Bobcat players at the airport and they told him Vigen was taking the job. Seems suspect to me.
I saw that thread, the original post is highly suspect because it doesn’t make sense to have ran into Cats players at the airport today. But a lot of the comments are interesting because they all seem to also point in that direction.

I don’t know…. Gotta love this time of year with the coaching carousel and portal business.
Yeah that feels like trolling. Seems like he can't both be meeting with WSU and that players at the airport would know he was taking it already. Nonsense. Definitely possible they conducted the first round of finalist type interviews in Vegas. Idk. I think it's possible he goes but I think he has a chance to go the Klieman route with as highly regarded as he is, if we win one here and make another deep run or 2.

What were Bobcats players doing at the airport? Did we have a road game I am not aware of?

I don't know what their schedule is, but they might have a couple days off for Christmas.

Going home for Christmas?

I’m pretty skeptical that players would be telling random people in the airport though. If they were doing that, everybody would know.

Could be. But even if there were players at the airport, and even if Vigen is negotiating with wazzu, one the players aren't going to know the outcome of negotiations yet and 2, they aren't going to tell some random on the internet if they do. This program is a way tighter ship than that. Totally possible this all bears out but the rumor mongering guy has no idea if it will or won't.

I think it’s very possible Vigen goes to WSU, I just think the stories coming out right now are bogus.

I agree. I'm just responding to the comment about players possibly being at the airport.

I don’t know what their schedule is, and I have no doubt they’ll get a day or two off for Christmas, but for them to be flying out Sunday would mean they’d be getting 4 or 5 days off. I’m skeptical they’re taking that much time off.

The rumors on Vigen leaving very well may be true, I’m just very skeptical of that specific post saying they talked to some players. Doesn’t add up.

Yes I wasn't calling you out, sorry if it sounded like it. More just the absurdity of the whole premise. I'm sure some kids flew home.

Good news everyone, I flew out of the Bozeman airport this morning and did not see a single Bobcat player wandering around the terminal telling random strangers that Vigen is leaving for WSU.

All hobos wear gris gear.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

So what I’m reading from some is that coaches can leave whenever, but players are stuck at the school until it’s too late to leave, and it will be enforced schools banding together to enforce these transfer restrictions on stodente who happen to be athletes.

See, I’m the type that says other schools can do that if they want, but my program is going to take good players whenever I can get them and gain an advantage over these classy schools. If they refuse to accept student-athletes who want to enroll for Spring semester, that’s their choice.

What a tremendous recruiting advantage that would be for my school.
Theres zero reason why the NCAA can't have a blanket prohibition on hiring athletic personnel during the season.

A school could also have a condition on athletic scholarships that students are not allowed to enroll at another school during the athletic season. Both my kids start classes on January 6, same day as the FCS championship...FBS championship game isn't until January 20.

These issues are pretty simple to solve within the bounds of the current rules. It just takes a bit of spine from the NCAA.
A football coach is a university employee. I highly doubt the NCAA is in any position to legally prohibit universities from hiring a new employee at certain times of the year.
The NCAA is a decent lawsuit away from only having the authority to enforce rules during actual games and conduct championships
Do no organizations have authority or just NCAA based in their set up. How about MHSA. These are associations made up of members, who set the rules. Everyone always complains about the association but the schools select the leaders, approve bylaws, and vote on rules. They only have themselves to blame
Really good point!
