Is the next step in NIL to have multi year contracts where if you leave after a year the new school has to pay back the initial school? Don’t understand why contracts can’t be written that way, unless the athletes just have all the strength at the negotiating table (more power to them if they do).

It would take every NIL collective to adhere to these standards, and likely the student-athletes to unionize to negotiate benefits and other amenities.

It would be the complete end of college football at all but the highest levels of FBS. I can’t see a scenario where dozens of universities don’t just drop the sport right away if guaranteed players contracts, that are controlled by boosters with no outs, are going to work for any sustainable length of time.
