Fresno - The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl (Opponent - 7-5 North Illinois)
San Jose State - The Hawaii Bowl (Opponent - 6-6 South Florida)
Colorado State - Snoop Dogg Arizona Bowl presented by Gin & Juice by Dre and Snoop (Opponent - 8-5 Miami(OH))

Which of those games is a higher ceiling? Perhaps the Gronk Bowl? The Snoop Dogg Bowl?

I love bowl season. It’s one of the only times a football team with six regular season wins gets to declare themselves “Champions.”

Or even less. Marshall was replaced by 5-7 Louisiana Tech. Though I think the Golden Knights will likely be the victors.

I wonder what the viewership is of some of these. I enjoy a lot of the no-name bowls but I wonder what the return on investment is for the company that sponsors them.
As far as attendance goes, the vast majority of them are pitiful

Another way to look at it is your reward for a 7-5 season is your school begging fans and boosters to ante up more money for a possible trip to the spud bowl. Why? College basketball doesn’t have bowl games and seems to do ok.

Hardly. While they go through different names and conference associations (sometimes because those keep changing as much as the sponsors of the bowls do), bowl games are very sustainable. The Famous Idaho being talked about here has been in existence, first as the Humanitarian Bowl, since 1997. NIU vs Fresno will get probably get 5 to 10 times the viewers than the Cats semifinal game with USD and the Cat game which was on network TV while it was on cable. There are legit reasons why advertisers throw the large sums of money at them year in and year out.

I love bowl game season as much as the next guy. But quite frankly I do agree that some of them are embarrassing.

Very good numbers, they were probably helped out by the fact that the FBS playoff games were all blowouts. I wonder if those numbers include ESPN+ viewership, which would have been significant especially for fans of the teams that were playing.

Some thoughts on bowl season:

1. It's fun. The reason it's fun is because I get to watch 20 teams I haven't watched all year, and I don't care who wins.

2. If the Bobcats were in one of those bowls, I would care about the outcome, but I wouldn't be as excited as I am for anything after the second round of the playoffs.

3. I guess it would be fun for other people who don't care who wins to be watching the Bobcats, but it seems like that happens anyway after the first two rounds.

4. I watched Toledo and Pitt today. The Bobcats could hang with either of them with a little more speed at LB and in the secondary.

I’m always amazed at what Sates do not fund because of all the government waste. Nevada has the largest gaming revenue in I’m assuming in the USA and maybe the world. What that tax revenue has to bring in and now the students gotta pay for it. Not much different here in Montana though. I can remember when we were told if we as voters were to vote yes to allow the gaming/ gambling you see everywhere across this state that our schools would reap the benefits. Why the hell are we still having fundraisers to buy uniforms and equipment for public school sports and activities.

I assume that the tax money is going to the schools, it's just going to administrators instead of teachers/students/sports. At the college level it's probably also going to quality of life amenities (buildings, dorms, food services, etc.) rather than controlling costs for students. When college kids can get unlimited funding via student loans why try to make college affordable when you can just make it more fun?
