Yeah I think it's a top 5 team coming back and maybe better depending on QB.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 3:37 pmBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 1:27 pmVigen also isn’t a spring chicken and there certainly will be a drop off with the team next year. It’s a tough choice. I’d love for him to stay, but it’s pretty tough to pass up possibly tripling your salary with a lower cost of living.
Not sure I’m buying the “big drop off next year”…
Yeah, we have some big names graduating, but there is also a ton of big names returning. The last 4 years recruiting classes have been absolutely loaded, the cats are super deep. This team is not going anywhere and will continue to be one of the top FCS programs.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
A lot of teams will lose a lot of talent to graduation this season since there are basically two senior classes (the 2020 freshmen, 2021 freshmen, and even 2019 freshmen who redshirted) using their last season of eligibility this year. MSU will be right up there again next season, at this point it's basically the Montana schools and the Dakota schools at the top and then an increasingly widening gap to everyone else.

For sure still a top FCS program. But not undefeated and likely not a true championship contender.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 3:37 pmBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 1:27 pmVigen also isn’t a spring chicken and there certainly will be a drop off with the team next year. This all depends on Vigen and if he leaves, and how many players he takes with him if he goes.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 3:45 pmYeah I think it's a top 5 team coming back and maybe better depending on QB.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 3:37 pmBelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 1:27 pmVigen also isn’t a spring chicken and there certainly will be a drop off with the team next year. Who will be then. NDSU, SDSU also lose 4 year starters. Cats showed they can win with Tommy not running. WR, RB, should be strong. OL depends on if any leave. DL strong, DB good, LB need to find the guy.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 4:25 pmFor sure still a top FCS program. We're as much of a contender as any. Even if/when Connor Moore leaves. Will depend on who gets qb right among the top outfits.tetoncat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 25, 2024 5:09 pmWho will be then. Every day they don’t make an announcement, makes me think it’s Vigen even though I wonder who would take on that dumpster fire program. The pay increase is nice but there are so many problems. I have to think there would be other better FBS opportunities.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
I would say one of the things in favor of Vigen leaving for Wazzu is its proximity to the PAC NW and Bozeman. Maybe Grant transfers, maybe not, but having easy access to Bozeman for reasons of legacy and family, and yet stepping up to the FBS now with a chance to build…for 1.5 million…okay, I get it. Makes some sense!

I double checked and they both reposted the one from the same account. There’s also a thread on Reddit, some guy started saying he was talking to Bobcat players at the airport and they told him Vigen was taking the job. Seems suspect to me.

There are many things far more important than money. Hopefully Vigen understands this and decides to stick around.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
So out of curiosity, I keep seeing people saying to put Daly in as HC if Vigen leaves, do people really think he is ready or is that just wishful thinking? 1 year as a DC doesn't seem to me to automatically mean he is ready to lead a program even if it would be nice to have the continuity. I also imagine more of the staff would want to go with Vigen and get a pay bump than stay here with the new guy.

He is ready. It is the NDSU model for success. I would hate to see an overhaul of the staff.

I could see Udy stepping into the OC role. After all, it's the position he was hired for after Matt Miller left for Boise. He was already a run-first guy and now he's had a few years to matriculate.superbobcat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 9:53 amHe is ready. It is the NDSU model for success. Awfully easy for us to say when we wouldn't be the ones getting the huge pay raise.

I didn’t know he was a run first dude. Guess that’s what I get for assuming he was a Texas Tech Air Raid guy.Cledus wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 9:55 amI could see Udy stepping into the OC role. I agree. I’d be shocked if Daly was ready to be a HC. I trust Leon if MSU is looking for a new coach.technoCat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2024 9:42 amSo out of curiosity, I keep seeing people saying to put Daly in as HC if Vigen leaves, do people really think he is ready or is that just wishful thinking? 1 year as a DC doesn't seem to me to automatically mean he is ready to lead a program even if it would be nice to have the continuity.
