So out of curiosity, I keep seeing people saying to put Daly in as HC if Vigen leaves, do people really think he is ready or is that just wishful thinking? 1 year as a DC doesn't seem to me to automatically mean he is ready to lead a program even if it would be nice to have the continuity. I also imagine more of the staff would want to go with Vigen and get a pay bump than stay here with the new guy.
I agree. I’d be shocked if Daly was ready to be a HC. I trust Leon if MSU is looking for a new coach.
He's been the Associate HC for the last few years. I think he's absolutely ready to run the show.

He is ready. It is the NDSU model for success. I would hate to see an overhaul of the staff.
I could see Udy stepping into the OC role. After all, it's the position he was hired for after Matt Miller left for Boise. He was already a run-first guy and now he's had a few years to matriculate.
I didn’t know he was a run first dude. Guess that’s what I get for assuming he was a Texas Tech Air Raid guy.
I admit I didn't dig deep into his background. I was going more off him being immersed in the run-first Choate and Vigen offenses. Even if he is an Air Raid guy, I think being on the MSU staff as long as he would give him a new perspective. I'm sure he's smart enough to see that success at this level is about controlling the line of scrimmage.

Can they just make an announcement already and have it not be Vigen….
Every day they don’t make an announcement, makes me think it’s Vigen even though I wonder who would take on that dumpster fire program. The pay increase is nice but there are so many problems. I have to think there would be other better FBS opportunities.
This and the lack of any sort of recruiting news. I know they have a very important game to plan for and Cats typically only use the portal sparingly but nothing seems weird.

Al Johnson would be tops on the list to retain for me. I'd be fine making him the OC if that would keep him in house and Walker followed BV.

Agree. Al will need a promotion to stay, either way...

If Vigen leaves he's definitely taking the best OL coach in the FCS with him.

Has a paywall, but you get some info to how things are not so rosy at WSU.

The State of Montana is Bobcat country.

Wow! Even the little bit I could read before the paywall makes me thing Vigen shouldn’t take that job. Vigen is a smart man; I don’t think he will take a job on a sinking ship.

Just a reminder, nobody thought Choate would uproot his family and leave while Jory was on the team. But yeah, they're definitely going through some turmoil and how it all unfolds is anyone's guess.

I hope he doesn't take the Wazzu job, not just because I want him to stay a little longer, but because he deserves better than that. I get striking while the iron is hot and it'll be hard to find a better time than 15-0, but you would think if he can get next years team with a new QB and back to at least the semi's the number of job opportunities that would open up to him would be way better than whats on the table here.

In hindsight we shouldn't have been surprised that Choate left. It's kind of amazing he stuck around as long as he did. I was always a big fan but he's always been a mover. Vigen is much more stable. That doesn't mean he won't leave but he won't be constantly looking for greener pastures either.

I agree. This feels like a floor for him. Despite the reconstituted-in-26 PAC wazzu is now essentially a mountain west job, which he'll always be in the mix for. If you go to wazzu and flop, then it's G5 coordinator or back to FCS. For a guy like Jeff Choate, who likes to keep moving, that's all a part of the cost of doing business, but for Vigen, who likes to stay put, I would think the finances over there would at least give him pause.

I paid my $9.95 to join the Wazzu VIP fan board and there are a lot of issues being hashed out over there that would make anyone pause, even if the pay was what the previous guy was getting. Lack of campus leadership, reducing scholarships, no conference and general malaise…but their fans think Vigen should jump all over the opportunity for the pay increase alone.

Vigen spent 22 years at NDSU (if you count his time playing) and 6 years at Wyoming.

I'm not sure that Choate has spent 22 months at a job other than MSU.

Not remotely similar. I think Choate is a more likely hire for Wazzu that Vigen.

Agree. It's hard telling what anyone is going to do when dollar signs start floating around...but there will be a Pac 2-MWC job open every single year.

Seems to me that with a few more years of work at MSU, assuming he manages to win the chipper, plus a few more years of 10+ wins & deep playoff runs, Vigen should be in the mix for a FAR better job. Klieman went to K-State, Deion to Colorado, Troy Taylor to Stanford.

Theres zero reason Vigen should settle for the first crappy G5/6 rebuild program with a toxic work environment offered. If Vigen polishes his resume a bit, theres zero reason that he shouldn't have a GOOD HC job, like at Utah or one of the Midwest Big 12 teams.

If Choate had the chance he'd have left sooner. You're correct. Not remotely the same.

Vigen is one hell of a coach, as is the rest of the staff. I mean they took a freak athlete from Butte and supported him as he became the best player in the FCS. Obviously tons of hard work from Tommy but the coaches designed a phenomenal offense around him. That being said Vigen deserves to go to a great program. If its wazzu, fine, but I think he can do better.

Hopefully, this works. If not, the guys twitter handle is Wheatfield Underdogs

These idiots have been arguing about whether or not Tommy has another year of eligibility and tracking private plane traffic between Bozeman and San Diego in the last day. They clearly have no idea what the Bozeman airport looks like during the holidays.
