Re: Next HC
Bobby Daly - imo keep it in house … local, well liked by players and that’s valuable in the portal era. Understands Montana recruiting, did an incredible job with the defense this year. Surround himself with experienced coaches (Jason McEndoo? Guessing Al Johnson / Tyler Walker leave so he could be a good coordinator now that he is no longer at Oklahoma St) he’d do great.
Tyler Roehl - former NDSU coach who many thought would take over after Entz left … solid coach who spent the last year at Iowa State
If true Vigen is gone, sky isn’t falling. He did a tremendous job and I’m thrilled he got ahead of it and told the team before anything leaks. Focus is still 1-0 and the Bisom

Re: Next HC
Freddie Banks would also seem to be a good option if he'd be interested in coming back.
But I'm sure Leon and the search team will look well beyond the short list of names we already know, unless they've already settled on Daly as the in-house promotion.

Bobby Daly. Give him the job. Qualified. Continuity. Players love him. Blue and Gold runs through his veins. He could be the guy that never leaves.

Re: Next HC
I think Banks is going to Wake Forest as DC. Somewhat doubt he'd drop down unless he really wants a head coaching job.

Re: Next HC
The report I saw was DB coach, not DC. I think a FCS HC job would be quite competitive with an ACC position coach job. All depends on what he wants of course or if MSU would even be interested.

That makes a lot more sense. I'm going to blame being addled by cold drugs today.MSU01 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 3:04 pmThe report I saw was DB coach, not DC. Re: Next HC
National search again, and hoping Waded is also a part of the search committee.
If Daly interviews the best, OK, but this is now a program looking to reload each season, and a young HC with only one year of experience as a coordinator makes me a bit apprehensive.

Re: Next HC
Daly has been assistant head coach at MSU since 2022. Was head of football operations at Idaho. Also heavily involved in recruiting. The culture at MSU is super strong and I can see it continuing with virtually no interruption with Daly at the helm.PapaG wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 3:12 pmNational search again, and hoping Waded is also a part of the search committee.

Re: Next HC
Hiring from outside has turned MSU into an FCS power. Both ways work, I’m just saying do a full search and extensively interview qualified candidates to find the best hire.BleedingBLue wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 3:22 pmHiring from within is how the other 2 FCS powers have continued being FCS powers.
I hope it’s Daly, too, but perhaps there is a better fit. Not everyone is made to be a head coach.

Re: Next HC
People are speculating. TomCat made a comment that Vigen is taking the WSU job, but almost immediately walked that back.

Re: Next HC
Pros for Daly:
-He's an alum and a Montanan, so he's more likely to stick around longer than someone just passing through on the coaching ladder.
-He dominates as an in-state recruiter, which is absolutely foundational for maintaining success.
-He's had 6 years to work under Vigen, giving him ample time to understand the program philosophy that has been so successful.
-He has excelled in regards to the on-field product-- linebackers have developed under his leadership and the defense took a big leap in 2024 (from 22 points/game allowed to 17).
Cons:
-No experience outside of the BSC, limiting potential ties to good options for staff-building.
I'm pretty sold on promoting him. He's been groomed as the Assistant Head Coach for a long time now.
