I mean, they're no New Mexico, but you'd think someone with Vigen's resume would prefer a slightly more stable stone than WSU. Isn't that kind of why he waited for a job like MSU to leave Wyoming? The word back then was that he'd had opportunities before we came up but wanted something worth moving on for. An FBS job is an FBS job but the future doesn't look promising over there. Maybe he thinks it's the right time and place but maybe he doesn't.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:25 pmI don't know about this.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:17 pmWSU is a "desperate to move up" kind of job and Vigen doesn't seem the desperate type.
WSU is basically now equivalent to how we would have traditionally thought about a Mountain West job.
I would never consider it desperation for an FCS head coach to take a head coaching job at a Mountain West school.
If Vigen has his sights set on competing as a coach at the Power 4 level, WSU is a sensible stepping stone.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
Whoa! this was quite a read to open up to. Gone, back, not coaching, pound sand, etc. Really hope that Vigen to WSU does not happen for entirely selfish reasons but I don't think many here would be rooting for his future success if he leaves before finishing out this potentially historical season. Agree that now WSU is purely a Mountain West type job and they are not going to get the same fan support financially or attendance wise as they did with their old pac schedule. Hope that this is purely inflated rumor and the team and Coach Vigen are intensely preparing for Frisco! Go Cats!! Stay Vigen!

I have no basis for this. But I just don’t think Vigen is leaving for Wazzu. There’s my worthless two cents on this.

Let’s all take a collective deep breath and try not to overreact to every little rumor that we think we’ve heard.

Plenty of teams will be hiring again next year. It's not like his career prospects would fall off a cliff if he stayed in Bozeman for another year.

AMEN!
It would be great if people didn't start a new thread every time they heard a damn rumor.

Re: Wazzu just lost their HC
There is nothing in Vigen's behavior that suggests he would ever consider WSU given their current circumstances. We may lose him to another better opportunity but not WSU.
While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Coaches leaving before bowl games after taking a new job happens quite often these days.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:26 pmI mean, from what I’ve seen with Wazzu, Dickert and other WSU coaches have been butting heads with the athletic department for some time. That in addition to leaving before the bowl game gives more of a “telling them to pound sand” vibe than leaving on more amicable termsPapaG wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:22 pmIs Jake Dickey moving to a P4 program, and for a much higher salary, really telling Wazzu to “pound sand?”PHAT CAT wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:10 pmWSU is a dumpster fire right now. Vigen is a better coach than the one who just told them to pound sand and quit. I have a friend who was the assistant head coach there when they were in the real PAC 12. That was a good job. Now? Hell no. Coach Vigen can do a lot better.
If that’s the case, if/when Vigen leaves for a better conference and higher pay, is he telling MSU to “pound sand?”

Joining a new PAC 10 with Boise State and the larger MWC markets is a decent move IMO.

This is correct. I would even argue that the PAC 12 will be considered the best G5 conference in the country.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:25 pmI don't know about this.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:17 pmWSU is a "desperate to move up" kind of job and Vigen doesn't seem the desperate type.

He addressed the team last night and said he was in negotiations and had not accepted the job. Maybe that changed today

When I think about where the highest end FCS coaches have gone (Wyoming, Kansas State, UNLV), Washington State seems reasonable.coloradocat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 4:36 pmI mean, they're no New Mexico, but you'd think someone with Vigen's resume would prefer a slightly more stable stone than WSU. My guess is that he’s negotiating with them and will only take it if certain demands are met.

Man I hope not. Wazzu is a recruiting wasteland at this point, would absolutely suck to see Vigen get stuck in that job.
