Yeah tom has earned the right to have a mulligan. He's not just some dude like me throwing crap out there on Reddit. He had info that turned out to be wrong. It happens. BN would not be as good without tom on it and neither would skyline's coverage of the bobcats. This would be a wise one to walk past IMO.

WSU is a "desperate to move up" kind of job and Vigen doesn't seem the desperate type.
I don't know about this.

WSU is basically now equivalent to how we would have traditionally thought about a Mountain West job.

I would never consider it desperation for an FCS head coach to take a head coaching job at a Mountain West school.

If Vigen has his sights set on competing as a coach at the Power 4 level, WSU is a sensible stepping stone.
I mean, they're no New Mexico, but you'd think someone with Vigen's resume would prefer a slightly more stable stone than WSU. Isn't that kind of why he waited for a job like MSU to leave Wyoming? The word back then was that he'd had opportunities before we came up but wanted something worth moving on for. An FBS job is an FBS job but the future doesn't look promising over there. Maybe he thinks it's the right time and place but maybe he doesn't.
When I think about where the highest end FCS coaches have gone (Wyoming, Kansas State, UNLV), Washington State seems reasonable.

My guess is that he’s negotiating with them and will only take it if certain demands are met.
Ohio State (Jim Tressel). Stanford (twice-Troy Taylor and one of the Harbaughs). Colorado (Neon Dieon). Those are just off the top of my head.

Was it Wulff that went to WSU back before they got relegated to G6? Jay Hill at BYU may be a DC, but thats a far better job in pretty much every possible way (except for a 15% pay cut).

If I were Vigen, I'd be looking for an OC job with a playoff contender or an HC with a power 4 team.
Tressel had been on OSU’s staff previously. Harbaugh was a Harbaugh. Sanders was Neon Deon. I suppose Vigen could try to hold out until he’s treated like one of those guys, but that seems pretty unrealistic.

Tom gave his mia culpa. He has more inside information than 99% on this board because of his job as being a reporter focused on the Cats. If his breaking news, albeit possibly/probably erroneous, ruined anyone's Christmas, that's on them. I prefer having an insider like Tom providing us with good insightful information on a regular basis than having no information at all.
I like the information we get from Tom too, and I know he's well intentioned, but there are more than just Bobcat fans monitoring this. A screen shot of Tom's post is on the wazzu fan board as well. Possibly other places.
Just saying, gotta be careful with posts like that until you're very sure it's true. It travels far, and fast.

This thread...Damn, it's going to be a very long 9 days until we actually get to watch one more game of football with the current team and coaching staff in place.
My thoughts exactly! Talk about a bunch of hens. C-mon Boys, you're better than this.

Honestly might be a good fit for Choate since he already has history there.

If this list is accurate and not speculation, there are certainly sexier names than Vigen.

Choate grew up in the area and still has family in the area. This is a rebuild so perfect for Choate.

There’s no question if Choate is interested in the position. The question is if WSU has any interest in him.

Choate, Vigen and the WKU coach were on the radar of Wazzu fans/insiders, but not the others. The WKU coach signed an extension already. They’ve been chattering about Kirby Moore, Jim Mora (who also signed an extension at UConn) and now Jimmy Rogers.

I second this! Tom brings a lot of helpful info and I’m glad he’s on this board. I have no problem looking past this one.

Yup. He made a mistake, apologized for it, and I assume will absolutely sure about posting things like this from now on. Plus, he did say "I heard...", and plus he retracted it within like what, 30 minutes?

Tom didn’t even do anything wrong. There’s nothing to forgive. This is a message board. If we are going to hold Tom to this level then let’s start going through the Gameday Threads and hold everyone accountable.

I wonder what the buyout is for his contract at UNLV. Only being there 1 year, it will be on the high side.

It’s always good practice to extend grace and not cancel people here.

I have no idea what the buyout would be but I would chip in a couple of bucks to pay it if it helped keep Vigen here a little longer.

At the risk of extending this further, I just want to say that you're all very kind and graceful. It was a huge mistake on my part and despite knowing the person I got the info from and trusting that person 100% it simply was wrong and not really even my place to be "breaking" news like this. I am not a full-time sportswriter and never have been, therefore I like to leave almost everything to the people that are making it their careers, which are built on being able to get news out first. With that, I'll move on.
