I’d say The NY Times is a solid source
My guess is if Vigen was choice #1, they wanted him to skip the chipper and he wasn’t willing to do that.
That’s my thought, as well.
I would guess we came up with some more money or Vigen wasn’t willing to take their offer and they moved on to Rogers. This is a BIG jump for him.
There's also the possibility that WSU didn't want to wait to announce the hire until after the FCS championship
High.
I totally agree with that and am sure that’s why there has been such a lag between Dickert leaving and WSU making any kind of hiring announcement.

Yep, in the arms race that has become CFB, being this long without a HC has put wazzu way behind. Hopefully the off season coaching roller coaster is done for the time being. Really want to see what Vigen can do after Tommy.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

I think Rogers (and Vigen for that matter) are way too buttoned down for Wazzu-just like Paul Wulff was. Wazzu needs a character like their last coach, or Mike Leach, or Mike Price from way back when. Eck would have been perfect if the timing had been a little better. Polasek from NDSU would be a better fit there. Ground and pound won't work there. Best thing Rogers can do is hire the Wazzu interim offensive coordinator who was calling the plays in the Holiday Bowl last night. Vigen dodged a bullet in my opinion. Way better jobs ahead for him.

Gold rush next season just got a little more interesting.

There's also a possibility that Vigen never actually wanted this job but used the process to leverage more money for him and his staff.

Thank God we won the semis. I really do think that’s the difference here. Rogers is free right now, Vigen isn’t
Yeah, I tend to agree. Hard to imagine the SDSU coach had a more compelling overall profile

Good for Vigen, if so. Definitely a high-integrity move. Will definitely help with keeping the team focused for the championship game. He will have other opportunities, but I thought this was one that would have made a lot of sense for him despite the deficits. I would love it if he stayed for a long time, but honestly I think it's going to be hard to keep successful coaches from moving up until we can offer a seven figure package with more than four years on it. And I get that this is a heavy lift for where we are currently as a school. And even then, we're only going to keep someone with a real affinity for the school-- maybe an MT Native or an alum.

@TomCat88 from Sunday night can now tell @TomCat88 from yesterday where to stick it.

Great job Sunday Night Tom. We've always preferred you to Friday Afternoon Tom.

I am not sure why anyonecwould want that job. They lost 26 players to the portal, are moving down in terms of quality of conf, I heard they are reducibd scholarships to 79 and lower pay for coaches.

I believe leon C already knows this, and will do everything he can to retain coaches. The problem being his hands are somewhat tied by the board of regents when it comes to pay for State employees. Outside ( private) $ is the most logical place to find it.
In any case I am really looking forward to Frisco and beyond for the Montana State Bobcats. See you then!

The B.O.R. can oversee salaries, but they can't prevent Vigen getting more money in other avenues. Guarantee his reported salary is not all that he is making.

I really hate to be that guy, but I heard he put his name in the hat for the Sacramento Kings.

Or, they wanted to wait until after their bowl game was completed before announcing a new head coach.

We'll know in a few weeks if that's the case. I tend to agree that he gets a big raise regardless though, probably in easy to attain bonuses.

What we'll know is what they want us to know. There's more strings being pulled than many know about.

I believe it is a combination of all of these. An official announcement hopefully comes out soon.

I am just so happy right now. Props to Molly.

Seriously, the FCS is in transition next season and having stability immediately puts you into contention.

Five year deal for Roger’s. Sources said WSU targeted mainly FCS head coaches. Article is on ESPN.com
