I'm not accusing them of this but do you think there's a possibility that they bought into the hype of the "best season in program history"? This season was overall pretty easy. That's not because the schedule was weak but because they were that good, but it also means they were really only truly tested once or twice before last night and they may have had too much belief. All season there has been talk about overcoming obstacles and disappointments but those all took place in previous years. There's nothing they could do about that but maybe they weren't tested enough to realize that NDSU is still NDSU.

If not the players, definitely the coaches, imo. Hard not to believe the press. Also, definite locker room motivation for NDSU. They firmly believe Miller deserved the Payton and set out to prove it. I loved all the interviews and articles, but it was pretty over the top.
It's like when I've watched rodeo over the years. When the announcers gush over a contestant, 9 times out of 10 that cowboy or cowgirl gets bucked off, hits a barrel, or misses with the rope. Being the underdog has more value than being favored. Less pressure for sure.

I honestly don’t know who really leaves. Scotty and Connor are going to have options but I think we have good depth at those spots and I think they want to return to the chipper. Hopefully guys don’t give up after “the perfect team”.

We have some really good young players and have had 2 excellent recruiting years in a row; BUT, there are a number of Seniors on this years team that we cannot replace so next year will be interesting.

This is what I’m talking about. Replacing the senior class plus any players that decide another option for more playing time somewhere is a better choice. I get we have a lot of players returning, but not one QB that has much playing time or even played an entire game. We definitely are going to need help on defense. Not that it really matters anymore.

NAU seems to be on the rise but also lost some key players to transfer

MSU has to be the favorite to win the Big Sky going into 2025, right? And SDSU will also be down a little after losing their coach and so many players to graduation and transfer. The road seems wide open for MSU to get right back to the championship game next year if they can get a few key transfers to supplement the up-and-coming young players already on the roster.

I don't think most of us that are disappointed (perceived as negative) think the sky is falling, but that this was probably our best chance at holding the trophy and we may never win it. Just had a game with 2 QBs who played championship as freshman and seniors. Both much better 2nd time, but you never know who is in the wings to step up.
