Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
I am at a point where I just don't care! We have a great program now with great facilities and great coaches. I also think that our game day experience is as good as it gets (granted I have not been to a ton of other away games). Going forward we will always be very good if not great no matter what happens at the end of the year. The games will always be a blast and we will always have a huge home field advantage because of our program and our fan base. It will always be fun, we will always be good and we should always make the playoffs. Not much to complain about here.

As I watched the no name bowl games I thought to myself “This is going to be Scotty next year, getting 3-4 yards and losing draft stock”. I wish the best for the guys but there are so many more success stories when guys stick around than then they leave.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 5:55 pmFor the record....I don't hate on any person for doing what's best for them. And nobody knows what's best for you, except....you. I'm also not saying this is what I would say or do if I was a teammate of any player, MSU or otherwise.
I just find it disingenuous sometimes. I talk to probably close to 200 current and former coaches and ex college football players pretty consistently. I don't know one person who's like "Man, I'm so happy for that guy" or who thinks that all these contrived, AI-written posts are classy or cool. It makes the vast majority of them sick and there's a general growing concern for the health of the game, especially below the Power 4 level.
So I guess I'll put it like this: If I was the player transferring, instead of writing a bunch of BS about all the unforgettable memories and how thankful you are, just write "I'm doing what's best for myself, I'm entering the portal." And if you're one of the guys getting left in the dust, if you are really happy for that guy, good for you, post about it, I guess. But if you're not happy about it, don't just post about it because that's what the social norm of young person communication is this day and age.
Like this profile I wrote about Rylan Ortt this year (https://skylinesportsmt.com/iron-ortt-m ... d-bobcats/), Bobby Daly told me this:
“He has the ability to confront and command more from his peers than anyone on the team. He doesn’t give a s—t what they think about him. And that’s tough at that age. I struggled with that when I was a player (an All-American linebacker at MSU in the late 2000s). I was nowhere near the leader that Rylan Ortt is.”
My point of making this post in the first place is that I like to believe there's guys out there who aren't hoping their now ex teammates go and be great. They hope they go learn a tough lesson that winning is hard and you aren't going to find very many spots where you're going to win more and do it for as many people who care about as Montana State....

I’m relatively confident that not many, if any fans on this board share the time investment, have inside information, or see an inside-the-program perspective like you Colter, you simply have access to more direct and indirect resources than the rest of us. The way you feel about the situation appears to be more traditional, I think most of us feel the same. I know I do. I definitely appreciate your perspective, appreciate you sharing it.Colter_Nuanez wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 5:55 pmFor the record....I don't hate on any person for doing what's best for them. Regardless of anyone’s thoughts or opinions these guys obviously don’t want to be here, so there really is no point in arguing about it. At this point, they want out so they are just another guy on whatever team they go to as far as I’m concerned.

Yup, agree here. I'm really glad Vigen didn't bolt because then I would be a lot more concerned about a new incoming coach being alle to fill gaps on staff and on the roster. Vigen will find and sign talent just like he always has.... Julius Davis, Rohan Jones, Ty McCulloch, Brendan Hall, Sean Chambers.... the list goes on.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:37 pmKinda like when we lost Reimer, Omar, and Valdez…91catAlum wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:21 pmWe lost 3 all Americans on offense to the portal this week. I think this is key. Vigen recruited well so far and seems to know what is needed and who will fill those spots best. Had he left it would have been far more catastrophic as likely alot more would have left with him.catatac wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 7:35 pmYup, agree here. Not sure about everyone on that list but Vigen et al had a big influence on developing a lot of players, including Mellott. And Mellott still has room for growth. They invest time into developing players.

People have been worried about losing OL talent since Conner Wood went to Missouri. And every year, the OL just performs. Make no doubt, the coaching has been good, but the talent is real, and it’s not declining. They’re bringing in, and developing, some dudes.

Have there been any known offers from the Cats to guys in the portal? It seems like the Griz have offered everyone and crickets from the Cats side.

Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
Keep recruiting hard from the ground up. Get the best high school kids you can get - in state and out. We will continue to lose some guys in the portal. So far, I’m not seeing any major damage. Yes Moore and Scottie are good, Rohan - replaceable. Everyone else - not huge losses. Use the portal minimally to fill some gaps. This will make getting the high school kids so much easier cause they know they are not going to work their ass off for three or four years and then get bumped down the depth chart by a bunch of transfers. Recruiting like the Griz with a heavy reliance on the portal is hit or miss. Who knows what the hell their team will be like next year. The cats will be tough as hell because of their program building philosophy. We know this. The building blocks are in place.

So the guys who theoretically should be the most loyal get a pass, but not the guy who transferred to Bozeman. Got it. Connor probably graduated. Did Scottre in his two years already get his degree?Monymony wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 3:27 pmScotty and Connor came to MSU out of high school. Griz have offered a pile of transfers the past three years. I would challenge you to go through those additions and find the hit rate. Also it's seems to me every player they get I'm told is a future all-american and...well...we know that has certainly not been the case.
Recruiting high schoolers and developing them will build a two-year talent turnover in the day of NIL...which is where MSU currently sits in their cycle. It leads to reloading instead of rebuilding. We are in a great spot because of how well we've recruited high school players.

That’s where I’m at too. It’s a part of how college football currently operates. I really don’t understand people who are clearly upset about a player who leaves for what they feel is a better opportunity for them and I assume their real loved ones. Still being surprised four years into this at some good players for MSU moving up in competition and likely more money seems it should be very uncommon to me. The only one who is a bit of a “surprise” just in terms of transferring is Rohan Jones, but everyone else so far has been expected to leave I’ve assumed we’re gone. I wish Rohan well, and the posters mad at him were cheering his TDs with the rest of us all season long.gtapp wrote: ↑Wed Jan 08, 2025 6:21 pmI am at a point where I just don't care! Adam Jones is staying not necessarily because he’s from Montana, which does matter, but also because his financial needs for any family aren’t a concern. I think he’s the best back on the roster and the type that in-state that is a rare find.

I know what the Cats are doing vs. what they’re doing over the hill. I’ve lost count on how many they’ve offered. Just curious if anyone in the know knew of some players the Cats may be after. Figured there would be a few offers thrown out there by now.
