Been anxious today waiting to hear more bad news. Or maybe some good news. So far neither. Maybe that's good.

I think it's pretty well established that with a few exceptions (Skattebo, Moore, et al) transferring has little to do with NFL prospects. Obviously, all other things being equal, the higher level you play at, the better your draft position. But of course, thats complicated by things like the level of competition, risk of injury, getting buried on the depth chart, etc.4KornerKat wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 2:45 pmI guess it depends on what you think of them and where they land. No one, just examples of the different types of transfers. If you are able to transfer to FBS Ohio State or Michigan and start, it will absolutely increase your draft stock. If you transfer to Miami (Ohio) for NIL money, I'm not sure it does anything for your draft stock.
Probably comparing what I think will happen with Moore vs. Rohan or Scottre more than anythign than the actual school they end up at.
I suppose Rohan and Scottre could see some decent playing time at the bottom of the ACC/Big 12, but I doubt either is a number 1 option.
If the goal is the bag of NIL money, they will get it. If the goal is NFL opportunity, I'm not sure they are putting themselves in a better position, but we'll see where they land. I don't know that being RB2 or 3 or TE 2 or 3 at North Carolina would be better than a season mirroring or improving their 2024 stats at MSU. For their sake, I hope I'm wrong.
But people forget that all these guys are super competitive. Most of these guys want to get coached by, play with, and be around the top levels of competition. And obviously, even relatively small NIL contracts are a huge deal to 20 year olds.
But the vast majority of guys in the transfer portal arent getting huge NIL deals, they aren't getting NFL looks of any sort...they are just looking for someplace where the grass might be greener.

Cole Moore used to play and work on the staff at MSU. Not related to Conner, at least a close relation.

I think its a lot less about the Portal and a lot more about the specifics of NIL money in Football & BB PLUS the change in the rule requiring transfers to sit out.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 8:29 pmI don't think it's really possible to make a meaningful comparison since nothing even remotely like the Portal existed back then.onceacat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 7:50 pmAbout half. I wonder if being down not only two very important coaches but two recruiters will end up hurting us this round. I'd imagine it's a little hard to commit to the team as an offensive player if you don't know who your OC is going to be. At this point maybe all our transfers come in after spring ball?AFCAT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 12:26 pmThat and Spring semester is only days away. Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
I am actually good with coaching staff not doing much in this round of the portal. Lack of recruiting time and the roster uncertainty until after the championship definitely puts us at a disadvantage. I also think by not bringing in a bunch of transfers right will show the players currently on the roster that the coaches believe in them and have confidence in the future. Yes there will be changes and transfers but maybe give these young guys a chance and have the coaches believe in their recruiting and development skills!! Those have served the program pretty well up to this point! Go Cats!!!
