Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
It’s a complete joke. All those that still think this isn’t about money, hahah keep living with your head in the sand. It is and always is about the money, save for the few that are transferring due to lack of playing time. Weird how that is abnormal with our situation.
Want to improve their draft stock, not one of our transfers this year will even sniff the league, not even Moore. Haha college sports is ruined as we know it and it is only going to get worse.
In 5 years, and it’s getting closer, I can see myself not even going to games anymore. what’s the point, get good players just to watch them leave in a year or two? Nah I ain’t down with that sh*t.
If your left, you aren’t right.

Sadly, I agree with you.
Absolutely destroying college athletics.

Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
By my count, 10 Bobcats have entered the portal.
What’s interesting is that only 3 of them— Moore, Humphrey, and Powdrell— started college at MSU. The rest came to Bozeman from somewhere else.

Two choices, obsess over the players who are leaving or realize that nobody is irreplaceable, appreciate the players who are committed to the program, and trust the coaches to bring in and develop replacements who are just as good or better than those leaving. I know which option I'll pick.

Yep. You find some great ones and they stick and others keep moving because they bring their issues with them from place to place.

You’re right. No one is transferring for better exposure. They may think that but it’s not the reality and it’s definitely a secondary motive.Hi-Line Bobcat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:20 pmIt’s a complete joke. This is how capitalism works. Someone ( Ed O’Bannon?) saw the illegality or unAmerican nature of it. It will take an intervention or regulation to retain the form of college football/sports in the way we know it. High school sports have a similar element going on.
I don’t think the players want to start at one school and then transfer. So there’s hope still. I think that’s the starting point. Find out how to make that happen in a way that doesn’t hurt the players.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

It's almost like the NCAA has no legal rights...but Congress is already talking about how to craft legislation to give them legal rights...the constant fight to not allow college athletes to unionize/be recognized as employees is counter productive. I say let them unionize, select a "board" of "union members", who then negotiate/bargain on their behalf. Negotiations between NCAA and college athletes union would produce legal documents that would bind both sides. Try and get the "contract" to last 6-8 years. Everything could be negotiated/bargained (transfer periods, number of transfers, number of years of eligibility). The majority of college athletes will most likely just vote "yes" if their union tells them. The greatest challenge to this model would be how the college athlete union is funded.
I believe the current path is complete destruction. I know I am already tired....and there is one more portal season!

Congress is seeing how much $$ is being thrown around and they want a piece of the action. There is a lot that needs fixed with the system but bringing in Congress will just make it worse.WetBreeches wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:02 pmIt's almost like the NCAA has no legal rights...but Congress is already talking about how to craft legislation to give them legal rights...the constant fight to not allow college athletes to unionize/be recognized as employees is counter productive. We are reaching the end game of capitalism in this country. It's what everyone seems to want and it's not going back to what it once was, right or wrong, good or bad. It's great for the players and I'm glad they are finally getting their cut but it's certainly bad for team comaraderie, brotherhood building and almi mater pride.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:53 pmYou’re right. Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
These players see the number of portal players, all the advice about how you should be deliberate before just entering, and think not me. I’m gonna bet on myself. It doesn’t matter the reality. They think they will be the exemption and not the rule. Even if they go to a P4 it’s to be the 5th corner or 6th wideout. For the overwhelming majority they are not bettering themselves. I see the transfers in 3 groups.
A. The ones that I expected to go and can legitimately compete and get paid at a higher level.
B. The ones that just want to get playing time. Their path to the field is blocked and for most already have a degree in hand.
C. The group making a mistake thinking they in the first group. Cats have 3 in my mind that are in this group.
I have no issue with the first 2, disappointed to lose to cream but I can’t fault them for going and getting paid. The last one pisses me off something fierce and maybe that’s unfair to them but that’s just way I feel.

It's possible that other players have entered the portal but not announced it yet. The deadline to enter was yesterday but I believe the school has 48 hours to submit the paperwork required.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:04 pmThat should be it, right? As a fan, this is so frustrating. But honestly, they realize they aren’t winning a national championship at MSU. So why stay when they can get some money from a P4 non contender.

The last 3 guys in the portal are definitely replaceable. Good riddance.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 12:43 pmTwo choices, obsess over the players who are leaving or realize that nobody is irreplaceable, appreciate the players who are committed to the program, and trust the coaches to bring in and develop replacements who are just as good or better than those leaving. Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
WTH are you talking about? We were a couple bad plays away from a natty last week. MSU is right there with the Dakota schools.
If they were at Idaho State or Western Illinois, then sure, they have no chance at a natty.
