Yeah, I stand by what I said. The Cats blew their best chance. As long as NDSU is in the FCS, MSU will never win a National Championship.

Re: Bobcat Portal News Only
Before NIL if we had a player having an outstanding season, they might transfer to the FBS to get more "big time" publicity for a possible NFL career. Now, it's all about the money. For example, according to most sources, Ohio State spent $20 million in NIL money in 2024. It's often said that OSU indeed has the "best team money can buy." I was so hopeful that NIL would not destroy FCS the way it has FBS, but I'm not so sure. When I say "destroy," I mean, turn college ball into NFL Lite. Actually, the NFL at least has guard rails on how teams get players. It's the Wild West in college athletics. All of those huge donationas to NIL are NOT tax deductible. I just don't see how this is sustainable. I don't know what the hell we are going to end up with. We are getting to the point where Montana State has the absolute best facilities of anyone on the FCS level, but if you have to have a bunch of billionaires donating to NIL to get and keep good players, we are in trouble.

The way the 24 team was hyped up and somehow surpassed the hype, yet still fell short and now loses all its senior leadership, I can see some of these guys thinking that. We don't have to believe it for them to.CodyCat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:28 pmYeah, I stand by what I said. The Cats blew their best chance. Johnson won't find a better opportunity than MSU. IMO, with guys of this caliber leaving it is not about the brotherhood anymore but more about ego.

I agree, outside of the billionaires owning some of these college teams now, NIL definitely isn’t sustainable the way it is set up. I’m sure they will find a way to make it tax deductible for the donors though, especially for the corporate and very rich ones.aucat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:37 pmBefore NIL if we had a player having an outstanding season, they might transfer to the FBS to get more "big time" publicity for a possible NFL career. It’s going to be a wild ride going forward and I’m going to reevaluate every year how much I want to participate.

I'm not advocating for Congress to get involved...just a lot of discussion already the next Congress will get involved.Duane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:07 pmCongress is seeing how much $$ is being thrown around and they want a piece of the action. There is a lot that needs fixed with the system but bringing in Congress will just make it worse.WetBreeches wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:02 pmIt's almost like the NCAA has no legal rights...but Congress is already talking about how to craft legislation to give them legal rights...the constant fight to not allow college athletes to unionize/be recognized as employees is counter productive. I say let them unionize, select a "board" of "union members", who then negotiate/bargain on their behalf. Negotiations between NCAA and college athletes union would produce legal documents that would bind both sides. Try and get the "contract" to last 6-8 years. Everything could be negotiated/bargained (transfer periods, number of transfers, number of years of eligibility). The majority of college athletes will most likely just vote "yes" if their union tells them. The greatest challenge to this model would be how the college athlete union is funded.

Political discourse is allowed here if it comes from the “correct” position, right guys? If we want to have a serious conversation on labor law, capitalism, the NCAA, and Congress, open up the Discussing the Issues board again. The days of an administration threatening web hosts for allowing wrongthink thankfully appear to e over for at least 4 years.seataccat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:10 pmWe are reaching the end game of capitalism in this country. It's what everyone seems to want and it's not going back to what it once was, right or wrong, good or bad. It's great for the players and I'm glad they are finally getting their cut but it's certainly bad for team comaraderie, brotherhood building and almi mater pride.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he got/gets some money. He’s very driven to play professionally. That was one of the things he said in one of his first interviews. He’s not increasing those chances. He struck me as someone that might be so obsessed that he would try anything and since he probably hasn’t turned any scouts heads is trying something else.

Maybe. But just because it’s not your view doesn’t necessarily make it a clown take. MSU is very very far off from winning a National Championship.Duane wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:45 pmWhat monumental clown take.CodyCat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:28 pmYeah, I stand by what I said. How can you definitively put yourself inside of whatever he’s thinking, and also if he’s helping or hurting himself? He made a decision that he feels is best for him, yet you’re saying it isn’t. That comes across as arrogance to me.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:53 pmI wouldn’t be surprised if he got/gets some money. He’s very driven to play professionally. We are less than a week removed from losing the NC by a FG in a game where they had the worst half of football they played all season. You need to step away from the keyboard till you can post from a point of reason.CodyCat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:57 pmMaybe. As the NIL becomes bigger in colleges are spending money to develop players and have an investment it almost becomes an employment type relationship. I won’t be long till we’re seeing lawsuits. That schools developing the player will be wanting to be compensated for developing players.AFCAT wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:43 pmI agree, outside of the billionaires owning some of these college teams now, NIL definitely isn’t sustainable the way it is set up. Another avenue that will go hand-in-hand are the spiffs that the players are getting from gas cards groceries, vehicles, and other compensation will Garner the attention of the IRS
