Now the question becomes, what's going on with the program? Clearly something is happening within the program, and that something isn't positive.
Oh please. This isn't hard you guys. These kids are getting floated huge offers from 3rd parties and they don't want to turn down the potential of going to the Power 4 and getting paid handsomely for it. Moore, Humphrey, Jones, Powdrell, and now potentially Johnson and Polidore are all going to get paid. Dru has a shot at making a lot of money and he likely found out how much in the past 5 days.

As for guys like Alexander, thats a tale as old as time with WRs.

Is this a problem with the program? No...but it's something we better be recruiting for every year. Holes will have to be filled through developing high schoolers (which we are obviously very good at) or finding Rohan's every year (mercenaries). It certainly doesn't feel good but we don't have the collective or FCOA that the Bison have. Adapt or die I suppose.
Sorry, but Powdrell, Johnson, and I'd argue even Polidore are not P4 players. Anybody telling them otherwise is feeding them BS. Is making a bunch of money to be a back up more important than playing? I remember when transfers transfered because they didn't get to play. Now transfers transfer because they can get paid, whether they play or not.
I don't think Polidore leaves unless he knows he has P4 offers waiting. I agree with you on the other two. As fans, just don't get too attached to transfer players or our really good high school players. Sounds fun to be a fan!
I get that Polidore probably has P4 offers, but I don't see him being a starting safety at a P4 school, unless it's a bottom feeder. It's crazy SDSU and NDSU have had so many guys return to try to win titles, or in SDSUs case, go back to back, yet we can't keep guys trying to get one. How much more money does NDSU have than us to keep Lance??
I've heard NDSU has close to $6 million in their collective on top of the school perks they offer. Quiee a bit more.
How does that compare to what the Bobcat collective has? I don’t know that I’ve ever really heard a number.
Is $6 million double ours, triple? Less?
I'd be shocked if MSU has more than 1 million in NIL money annually.
Yea, that’s a massive difference if that’s the case. Maybe that “big gift” could be some collective money…
The big gift is all the money other schools are paying our dudes to leave!

I’m done pretending.

If they care more about the money than the team, fine. That’s their prerogative but we don’t have to celebrate it. At some point in our culture, people decided that it’s moral to do virtually anything as long as you’re getting paid enough.

I’m not doing to do this silly song and dance about how they really do care so much about MSU and their brothers, it’s not only about money, “go be great!” blah blah blah.

Call a spade a spade. These guys who are here for a year or two and then move on again are mercenaries and for them it’s about the money— not the people, the community, the program, or the investment made in them.

I’ll cheer on the guys who love MSU and choose to stay.
Yea, once they peace out I’m done with them. The best thing to happen is if players start transferring out and never get picked up, or go play poorly somewhere and see how great a fan base is to them then. There needs to be some terrible portal experiences to occur to at least cause some hesitation. However, in the meantime, these guys just think they can jump through life consequence free.

Small college football seems like it’s going the route of mom and pop owned grocery stores and farms. Getting gobbled up by big corporations.

There were about ten little grocery stores in Helena area when I moved there in the 70s.

I'm no longer perplexed at some of these transfers now, I'm just laughing. Rock on, guys!

What a joke….
It’s a complete joke. All those that still think this isn’t about money, hahah keep living with your head in the sand. It is and always is about the money, save for the few that are transferring due to lack of playing time. Weird how that is abnormal with our situation.

Want to improve their draft stock, not one of our transfers this year will even sniff the league, not even Moore. Haha college sports is ruined as we know it and it is only going to get worse.

In 5 years, and it’s getting closer, I can see myself not even going to games anymore. what’s the point, get good players just to watch them leave in a year or two? Nah I ain’t down with that sh*t.
You’re right. No one is transferring for better exposure. They may think that but it’s not the reality and it’s definitely a secondary motive.

This is how capitalism works. Someone ( Ed O’Bannon?) saw the illegality or unAmerican nature of it. It will take an intervention or regulation to retain the form of college football/sports in the way we know it. High school sports have a similar element going on.

I don’t think the players want to start at one school and then transfer. So there’s hope still. I think that’s the starting point. Find out how to make that happen in a way that doesn’t hurt the players.
We are reaching the end game of capitalism in this country. It's what everyone seems to want and it's not going back to what it once was, right or wrong, good or bad. It's great for the players and I'm glad they are finally getting their cut but it's certainly bad for team comaraderie, brotherhood building and almi mater pride.
Are they? All of them. And will they continue to. Will non revenue sports continue to exist if colleges have to throw so much at the big sports. Will NCAA, D3, D2 Continue to exist for athletics. Will donors get fatigue of ponying up for facilities, the next great prospect who hasn't played a snap, college players making more than professionals.

Schools like MSU will never be able to keep great players on the roster for more than 1 year, from now on. At least not out of state players. And that is going to make it more difficult to stay on top year after year. Some years you just aren't going to find talented replacements for every guy you lose to the portal.

All I'll say is this young man left for reasons outside of football... cut him a little slack. I will not divulge his personal business but him leaving has nothing to do with msu or football.
I love your inputs, however, hard to cut slack when our program stuck their neck out for him, so he can enjoy this extra season. Also, Idaho will solve his problems? Sounds like he needs to face and challenge adversity.

Since you seem to be in the know, you working in bringing us up some talent that aren’t in it for the money but want to win a damn championship and big be dog?
Feel how you want to feel..... as stated he is doing what he feels he HAS to do over what he WANTS to do. Guy was ac starting wr for a team that just went to the NC, is going to a team that got blown out by the team he's leaving.... TWICE.. and your response is he needs to face adversity? Lolol I mean what is more adverse than going to a team that you beat the crud out of twice???

Well what I'll tell you is if you want good players you're going to have to pay them so making it seem like players that want to get paid for what they do is a bad thing really falls flat on me. You got a roster full of guys that will be darn good next year... there is no reason to panic and lose your mind. Everyone that has left has a replacement that is just as good if not better.... relax
You said it’s not about ‘MSU or Football’ so doesn’t seem it matters if he goes and plays for the Mud Dogs, sounds like when the going gets tough in his personal life he leaves.

Also, you’ve stated prior that it’s not about the money to players. So how many years is Jhase planning on playing one or if we are lucky two? How is there suppose to be a team when not one of these kids seems to actually care about the team. When I competed in college athletics it was taboo and frowned upon to leave, also many coaches would not think twice to pick up a lateral transfer.
You don't know what he's dealing with in his personal life so once again I'll say ease back.

I don't know how long jhase will be there. I'm not in his inner circle but I'm close to it. Well I don't know how long ago you played but I played in the late 90s-00s and we didn't care if you left. And that was when you had to sit out. If you left you had your reasons and we all respected that.

You say they don't care about then team I would challenge you to tell me how staying shows you care about the team. What I don't think you get is that whether an athlete stays or goes they are choosing the best situation for them at THAT PARTICULAR moment. So a player staying doesn't mean they care about the team more or less they are making the best decision for themselves.
BBT, I respect alot of your input, but your last paragraph plays totally into the entitlement culture that is doing our young people no good at all. Life is not always all about self nor should it be. When you choose to play team sports it is about the team and what's best for the team. There are valuable lessons to be learned and one of those is committing to a common goal and working with your teammates to accomplish that. Focusing on "getting what's mine" is a terrible attitude. Commitment, teamwork, sacrifice all lead to life skills that will take them far. Jumping from team to team, job to job, relationship to relationship only reflects selfishness and really won't get a young man far. This whole portal thing feeds greed, selfishness, and entitlement, and will not only ruin college football, but will ruin many young men as well. And that's just sad. "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil", the Bible says. And we see that play out every day all over the world. It's just too bad we can't protect these young men from getting sucked into that.
I equally respect your stance but I disagree. You are coming from a stance that if you don't sacrifice yourself for the betterment of my team then you can't do or get all that you just articulated.

I would trek you that you are very wrong in your take. An athlete doesn't have to sacrifice their upward mobility to work hard to achieve a common goal(they can do that on the next team)....I don't see it as entitlement is what they have worked hard for and earned. They earned their pay days, through decades of hard work. You act like because a player leaves they aren't showing any form of commitment, teamwork or sacrifice... most so just not for the team they are leaving. I know it sucks for the team they are leaving but to act like these kids don't have the morality it takes to be great men because they are capitalizing on their window is a pretty shallow take.

Many of these kids aren't going to play in the nfl, so being able to get 1-2yrs of 6 figures puts you way ahead when you're done playing. I don't know all the kids in the portal personally but I can tell you that polidore has been raised right and possess every quality you would want in a young man.

As a fan, this is so frustrating. But honestly, they realize they aren’t winning a national championship at MSU. So why stay when they can get some money from a P4 non contender.
That is Bull. If they realize that then they are not a player who will get time at a p4 and maybe the reason that Cats didn't win.

I’m kind of with you on that. I’m going to try and support the players the best I can while they are here and especially the guys that stay here. I only invest in Collective group merch or Senior merch. I do donate to the collective every month, so I have no real control how they spend that money, but I hope it goes to everyone and not just a few star players. I’m going to be wary of a lot more stuff now though. If the players want to treat this as a business and leave for some cash, then that’s fine, but I don’t have to do the fake “best wishes” and “always a Bobcat” stuff. See ya later.

Yeah the portal goodbye notes posted by on X are nauseating. Makes me hate their generation.

But the money is just too much to say no to. The Idaho WR who went to Wisconsin got a150k, apartment and car. That’s probably on the low end for guys who end up at a P5 program out of the portal. Crazy.

I really thought this would be a lot more limited after they made it to the cusp of a championship. I overestimated the quality of people on the team.

I heard the griz collective emptied their coffers to get him to stay, and they don't have a lot left to pay everyone else.
So I guess that's one approach, pick a small number of guys you really wanna keep and pay them each 100k. Then spread the rest around as much as you can.

I get your points, and really it’s not worth arguing over. People have different takes on what a team is. No hard takes on your answer. I know you played the game, and seem like you were quite the athlete. Believe it or not, I was (still like to think I am) a damn good athlete. Had opportunities to compete post college and also coach, this was all around 2014. I always new I could go somewhere else and get more perks, however, I loved know the blood and sweat I shed was for a team I loved. I loved knowing that I could go somewhere else, but instead stay and be a leader to underclassmen. However, if I was offered 6 digits, I’m not sure what I’d do. History says I’d stay because I’ve made awful decisions when choosing money over other utilities.

The team is now a year to year thing. I have no doubt the players leaving were bought into the team this year. Each year is now a new team.

I guess we know Jhase McMillan will be leaving as soon as he gets a pay day! Buyer beware, stay away from his NIL shop goods!!!
You nor I know that... but do as you please. He's a good kid that if you ask any coach, player or parent about him will have nothing but positive things to say... it's what it is
Since you seem to kind of know the family, any chance he’ll run a few times during the indoor track season?
