I guess we know Jhase McMillan will be leaving as soon as he gets a pay day! Buyer beware, stay away from his NIL shop goods!!!
You nor I know that... but do as you please. He's a good kid that if you ask any coach, player or parent about him will have nothing but positive things to say... it's what it is
I’m frustrated too. But to make decisions on how you feel about a player or if you’re going to support them because of other players isn’t quite right. Support the guys while they are here.
What I can say is Jhase's dad stays away from this board purposefully. And jhase rarely gets on social media at all. He, jhase, could careless if you support him or not... the kid is focused and outside voices mean little to him... if he cared about what people thought he wouldn't be at Montana St in the first place so take that for what it's worth.....
Yeah, I, not sure what Jhase has to do with this. To pick him out is kind of bizarre.
It's weirdo behavior and quiet frankly is the type of behavior that is very off putting to a family member. Like I get you're a super bobcat fan but to make a public decree to NOT support a player is something that can easily keep kids from wanting to come here.... but hey who cares right?

Whaaaat?

All I'll say is this young man left for reasons outside of football... cut him a little slack. I will not divulge his personal business but him leaving has nothing to do with msu or football.
I love your inputs, however, hard to cut slack when our program stuck their neck out for him, so he can enjoy this extra season. Also, Idaho will solve his problems? Sounds like he needs to face and challenge adversity.

Since you seem to be in the know, you working in bringing us up some talent that aren’t in it for the money but want to win a damn championship and big be dog?
Feel how you want to feel..... as stated he is doing what he feels he HAS to do over what he WANTS to do. Guy was ac starting wr for a team that just went to the NC, is going to a team that got blown out by the team he's leaving.... TWICE.. and your response is he needs to face adversity? Lolol I mean what is more adverse than going to a team that you beat the crud out of twice???

Well what I'll tell you is if you want good players you're going to have to pay them so making it seem like players that want to get paid for what they do is a bad thing really falls flat on me. You got a roster full of guys that will be darn good next year... there is no reason to panic and lose your mind. Everyone that has left has a replacement that is just as good if not better.... relax
You said it’s not about ‘MSU or Football’ so doesn’t seem it matters if he goes and plays for the Mud Dogs, sounds like when the going gets tough in his personal life he leaves.

Also, you’ve stated prior that it’s not about the money to players. So how many years is Jhase planning on playing one or if we are lucky two? How is there suppose to be a team when not one of these kids seems to actually care about the team. When I competed in college athletics it was taboo and frowned upon to leave, also many coaches would not think twice to pick up a lateral transfer.
You don't know what he's dealing with in his personal life so once again I'll say ease back.

I don't know how long jhase will be there. I'm not in his inner circle but I'm close to it. Well I don't know how long ago you played but I played in the late 90s-00s and we didn't care if you left. And that was when you had to sit out. If you left you had your reasons and we all respected that.

You say they don't care about then team I would challenge you to tell me how staying shows you care about the team. What I don't think you get is that whether an athlete stays or goes they are choosing the best situation for them at THAT PARTICULAR moment. So a player staying doesn't mean they care about the team more or less they are making the best decision for themselves.
BBT, I respect alot of your input, but your last paragraph plays totally into the entitlement culture that is doing our young people no good at all. Life is not always all about self nor should it be. When you choose to play team sports it is about the team and what's best for the team. There are valuable lessons to be learned and one of those is committing to a common goal and working with your teammates to accomplish that. Focusing on "getting what's mine" is a terrible attitude. Commitment, teamwork, sacrifice all lead to life skills that will take them far. Jumping from team to team, job to job, relationship to relationship only reflects selfishness and really won't get a young man far. This whole portal thing feeds greed, selfishness, and entitlement, and will not only ruin college football, but will ruin many young men as well. And that's just sad. "The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil", the Bible says. And we see that play out every day all over the world. It's just too bad we can't protect these young men from getting sucked into that.
I equally respect your stance but I disagree. You are coming from a stance that if you don't sacrifice yourself for the betterment of my team then you can't do or get all that you just articulated.

I would trek you that you are very wrong in your take. An athlete doesn't have to sacrifice their upward mobility to work hard to achieve a common goal(they can do that on the next team)....I don't see it as entitlement is what they have worked hard for and earned. They earned their pay days, through decades of hard work. You act like because a player leaves they aren't showing any form of commitment, teamwork or sacrifice... most so just not for the team they are leaving. I know it sucks for the team they are leaving but to act like these kids don't have the morality it takes to be great men because they are capitalizing on their window is a pretty shallow take.

Many of these kids aren't going to play in the nfl, so being able to get 1-2yrs of 6 figures puts you way ahead when you're done playing. I don't know all the kids in the portal personally but I can tell you that polidore has been raised right and possess every quality you would want in a young man.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying because that's the truth. When you accept an offer, and all the perks that come with it, you should commit. Team hopping, committing to whatever team you're playing for at the moment isn't commitment. Frankly, neither is coaches hopping, but that's another subject.
Playing college football, any college sport for that matter, is a choice. That choice comes with work, dedication, long days, late nights, but they are also given opportunities that regular students don't receive like extensive tutoring, weight and nutrition training and support, etc. What has been lost is this is school first, athletics second. The focus has changed from I'm going to play college ball, get my degree, maybe try out for the league if my numbers are good enough, then get a job and live my life, to I'm going to use this school as a stepping stone to be pulling a 6 figure income at 23 or 24 years old, degree or not, who cares? This is wrong! Why should a college QB make $4 million when a pro makes less than half of that? What are we teaching our young people???? Now, for those who have graduated, who have a year of eligibility left, as a fan, I want them to stay, but I can understand their desire to see what options are out there. However, I truly think this portal is setting the majority of FCS players up for disappointment. There are some who will get the big bucks. There's many more, especially starters, who by next May might be wondering why they made such a stupid decision to leave.
I respect your opinion. There are someone I agree with there are some a disagree with.

Your scholarship is year to year. The school isn't bound to you beyond one year and you aren't bound to the school beyond one year. They accepted all the perks and have their all during that year they were there. So I don't see the problem. I don't agree with team hopping, I actually geek that players that aren't starters that do this aren't very good and keep losing battles. So I don't find it appealing. At the same time of that same kid who isn't very good can leave school with 300-500k and a degree after going to 4 different schools honestly I can't be mad at them. They have to use what they have, their athletic ability, to maximize their profits.

Again I feel like you are separating this that shouldn't be.... most of these kids are not only trying to pull 6 figures but they are ALSO graduating. They have to pass a certain amount of hours, as you know, to stay eligible. So wherever they go they are working towards their degree. They are leveraging the little power they have to get as much money as they can along the way.

I agree a collegiate player shouldn't make more than nfl player... the nfl should pay more. These collegiate players are bringing millions of dollars they should get a piece of that, sorry that's just how I feel. You don't have to agree and that's fine.

Finally... yes there will be a lot if players that are left out in the cold because they over valued themselves. That's the risk they took. I've advised several of my former players to stay at their school because I just didn't feel the portal would be good for them others I've said you can move up. Each situation is different qbs had to be judged as such.
Well I'm glad you've had the opportunity to advise some players on reality for them. I think more could benefit from having some wise counsel in their lives. $ signs are hard to see through sometimes.

If we have 5-10 players that move up to the P4 with big offers each year, going to win a lot of games.
We won't have 5-10 players every year.

If you're mad about these guys leaving that's defensible. It's frustrating when "we" (the university, athletic dept, boosters and yes fans) invest time and money in these kids and then they take off. But I know this thread is going to turn the other way when we start announcing the next group of "mercenaries" coming in to fortify next year's team. And we'll love watching them play. And then some will leave. And we'll do all this again.
Players dropping down because they want to see the field has always been a part of college football.

It’s a false equivalence to say that’s the same thing as players bailing for cash.
That's not what Rohan did. He was a mercenary when he came here. All these kids were. Maybe we didn't know it but they were. And imo it doesn't matter what has been. This is reality now. And it's going to be a giveth and taketh thing every single December and January.

The definition of “commitment” needs to be redefined by Merriam Webster. It’s frustrating seeing athletes use any form of the word these days.

Wait wait wait, I can take some blame on this. When I was having a meltdown about losing people I asked Texas how long Jhase was planning on staying… so I’ll admit to that. Never said I would not support him, I’m actually pumped about Jhase, and it’s a big reason I’m not to up in arms about losing some DB’s

Edit* it is a fan forum though. So unless a kid goes to HufflePuff, it’s just best to stay off here. Hell I can search my name on here.

This whole portal stuff is just another reason that coaches have to take their payday when the opportunity arises. Vigens stock will likely never be as good as it was between the semifinal and natty.

I think people who are here simply because they’re friendly with one particular player should understand that most of us are actually fans of MSU and expect us to act as such.

Wait wait wait, I can take some blame on this. When I was having a meltdown about losing people I asked Texas how long Jhase was planning on staying… so I’ll admit to that. Never said I would not support him, I’m actually pumped about Jhase, and it’s a big reason I’m not to up in arms about losing some DB’s
Not you..... the other post where my guy said that everyone should stay away from his NIL shop goods..... then another poster backed it up by saying to get merch from some other place... like it's that kind of weirdo behavior that depending on the family will keep kids from coming here...... because what I see is if you're a really good player from out of state the montana folk are going to think you're going to leave so they shouldn't support you with an NIL.... that tells me as a parent of athlete I shouldn't consider msu cause you only support montana....... I'm sure the out of state families would love that.

I realize there’s a lot of disappointment, I’m frustrated and disappointed too, but we *might* be taking all of this a little too seriously.
Agreed, I’m frustrated, I’m annoyed, we all are, but I think some need to take a breathe and/or a break for a bit.

You want to hear something depressing. Just talked to offensively player who is a starter and touchdown maker. I asked if he will be back and he said he doesn’t know. He said with all the portal money he is taking calls and just got off the phone with a Big 12 school. I said I hope you’re back, and it’s a pleasure watching you. He said he would most likely be back but hasn’t decided yet. He also said the cats are targeting the QB from Stanford and the Martinez kid that played at NAU then went to Baylor.

Yeah it’s about the money folks and it sucks.

I mean Maine is like going from D2 to D1.
Exactly. Same move these guys are trying to make, most of them. FCS to G5. I don't like it either but here we are. And there's going to be a whole list coming in that i plan on rooting for. That's all I'm saying.

Well, don’t worry. One day I’ll get my pie in the sky, this next year will be good to myself and my family and as frustrated as I get I’ll always cough up $ for the Cats. Although, I am still pissed that during college my family paid for a brick for some track shrine and that particular brick still is not there.

If it’s who I think it is, it honestly would not surprise me one bit.

I was a bit in the know with Lamson and Martinez. So let’s change subjects here, if we had absolutely zero QB talent coming back. Who’d we want Lamson or Martinez of the chosen one was to be starter.

I think Martinez threw for 500 against us one year. No clue on the other guy.

And now is the circle of football life. However, I will not be happy until our team holds the damn NCAA Championship Trophy from atop Lone Peak, while singing The Circle of Life.
