This is a little mind boggling and perplexing to me. How do the Cats lose 14 to the portal and da fluffy cows 0 ?
Is it just the quality of the players? they have a few great ones but managed to keep them and the Cats had many more and somehow managed to lose the game as well? Ugh.

Christ Vim it isn’t about the money, it’s about playing time, family, coaching, etc.
The player I talked to, told me that the amount of money the players got that left MSU is crazy and that most of our big time players are taking phone calls everyday. The portal window doesn’t mean squat, they don’t care if they missed it or not. Nor do the coaches of the poacher teams. If the money is right, they will just quit in the spring or leave after spring semester and enroll in summer classes at their new school. This isn’t over by a long shot, we will lose at least 2-3 more big time contributors before the end of the year. He didn’t say that explicitly, but he damn sure implied it.

I was living a dream thinking we were about to win the National Championship, that some donor was about to gift $250MM and that, with a win, we would keep all our players and coaches setting us up nicely for a trip to Nashville... I don't like this real world crap

Nobody ever said it was going to be announced immediately after the championship game. Maybe it's real, maybe it's not, more likely the truth is somewhere in between nothing and an amount that would let MSU do literally whatever it wants with the stadium.

Also, the team has had a lot of exposure this year so the talent has been on display. Undefeated into the Championship game, multiple games with national exposure, multiple players with national award nominations, coaching awards, potential coaching job offers, lots of media exposure, etc... Besides that, it feels like we are being more heavily targeted because most of SDSU's best players just transferred up to WSU and more money, NDSU"s collective is flush with cash and able to counter offer and compete to retain talent but MSU is ripe for the picking. Montana just didn't have the amount of talent this year so when you take when you cross the Dakota states and Montana off of the list, we are seeing heavy pressure on our players.

Montana retained their best offensive player in Gilman and lost their other one (WR Racinelli). They lost their best defensive player (LB Riley Wilson) and...didn't have to worry about anyone else because you are spot on. Collective and the coaching staff do not have to release where they diverted the collective funds to so the rest of the team kind of knows, kind of doesn't. If we continue to make the final 4 every year and develop really good high school players who are great football players by their 3rd year in the program, its just going to be the way it is.

The next phase of growth for the MSU football program will need to be the expansion of the NIL collective. It isn't going to totally stem the tide, but it would help a whole lot.

Not sure this is a coaching job I'd want to have right now. Doesn't seem like the president supports spending resources on football and previously wrote an op-ed on the subject. This seems like a no-win situation for the coaching staff.
How in all the turmoil of the playoffs, and then going to Frisco on Thursday, do you find time as a coordinator to fly to Temple? And back? I doubt that Temple flies to meet coordinators at the Houston airport.

ZERO chance these guys were coaching without their whole hearts in it. Come on guys. I get the loss sucks. But some of the stuff I'm reading this week has just been nuts!
If you don't think these guys were coaching their asses off you don't know them. Or any coach for that matter. These guys were coaching to win. You know what would have happened if we blew the doors off NDSU? These guys would have gotten more interest from teams other than Temple.
