If you don't think these guys were coaching their asses off you don't know them. Or any coach for that matter. These guys were coaching to win. You know what would have happened if we blew the doors off NDSU? These guys would have gotten more interest from teams other than Temple.

Re: Any Portal News Yet
I would not accuse any coach/player of purposefully mailing it in for the championship game.
However, I have been in positions before where I'm playing out the string at one job having already committed to the next, and it can be very difficult to stay fully committed/engaged where you're at. It's human nature that your heart tends to be in the next place before you actually transition.
It's mere conjecture, but I would be surprised if that dynamic was not at play.

Well I have seen and do think. Teams that I have led in the business world when an individual decides to jump ship there is a noticeable change in mind set and performance immediately when they sign or announce. The person is focused on selling his house, moving arrangements, getting meeting and timing set with his or her new team, deciding when and how to get kids registered in new schools, little focus or care about the work projects they are working on…many times it’s almost a “I don’t care, you handle it mindset”. It is a marked and observable downward shift. There were times the former employee actually became a “cancer” walking around bragging about the money they were getting or how much nicer the new organization was and in these cases we ushered them out the door before their two week notice period expired. These are not “one off” observations because we had over 80,000 employees so we could see this type behavior many times.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 11:21 amFalse equivalence. The exception was if the person was moving to a higher level in the company or retiring and in those cases they still had vested interest in the success of the team and company. Or there were times was taking a personal leave but were expected to return (pregnancy, family illness, return to college for advanced degree, etc).
I’m not on the inside and I’m not saying that is the case with what went on with the team but I have seen that the less focus and support for the existing organization is a real phenomenon/behavior. You mentally begin to “check out” as soon as you make that decision to move on. Heck I saw it on youth when I coached baseball, basketball and soccer!
That is one reason I would extend the transfer portal after the end of the playoff seasons at all levels and make it illegal for teams and AGENTS to have contact with kids until the portals open up. I think the agent issue is a bigger problem than the schools. Just an opinion.

I get what you’re saying, but a competitive sport is different than normal jobs. Especially when they were playing for beloved seniors like Tommy, Brody, Marcus, Rylan, and others.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 11:43 amI would not accuse any coach/player of purposefully mailing it in for the championship game.

Like I’ve said before, these players and coaches knew they were leaving likely before the playoffs started. I doubt Walker didn’t prepare a good game plan because he was looking forward to Philadelphia. This is just something that every coach is used to.

GP certainly lacked in the first half of the chipper. How many times this year did the Cats lay an egg for a half?BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 11:57 amI get what you’re saying, but a competitive sport is different than normal jobs. How many times did they play a team as good as NDSU and only get 3 possessions in a half?KIX wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 12:09 pmGP certainly lacked in the first half of the chipper. Re: Any Portal News Yet
Found this interesting as we get hammered a little with the portal. Idaho lost 3 players to the Big 10, 3 to the ACC, 1 to the Big 12 and 10 to the MWC (7 to New Mexico). All from a 3rd place BSC team!! Obviously they lost their coach but still remarkable. Subsequently their new Staff has added 17 new players from the portal including guys from UW, MSU, Oregon State, Boise State. Cats might be considered at a disadvantage due to guys leaving in the window following Jan 6 but not being able to get new guys on campus in time for school and many already committed elsewhere. screwed up system. Mindset has to be to lean into this new reality and go get new dudes (plenty still available and more to come) who can mix with the existing group and win a semi final game next December in Fargo! That's a likely scenario to get to Nashville while not taking a step back. I'm looking forward to seeing who they bring in!
Go Cats!

Curious about how this will affect the USD program. I BELIVE (not a 100% sure) that players get a 30-day window to enter the portal after a head coach leaves the program and there’s the portal which opens again after spring ball.
That being said, I doubt anybody would leave unless they were keeping their players in the dark about this move or it was very sudden decision. Never know though.
If we build it, the championships will come: https://msubobcats.com/sports/2017/9/20 ... rPlan.aspx

South Dakota immediately promoted their DC to be their new head coach, which I'd imagine would limit any immediate losses to the transfer portal for them. They already lost at least one very good player (the DE Grace) prior to this news.

I kind of wondered if that was the end for him watching his post game press conference. Seemed like a good coach.RangeCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:27 pm

Kinda strange (or interesting) timing on this. Players can portal after a coaching change but school is already a few days in session which just makes it a little more difficult.RangeCat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:27 pm

It's also weird that he's leaving just as they are getting good and leading into Bouman's last season.
