Maclean Burckley has transferred after being told he wouldn't be the Bobcat kicker this season. "After MSU's FCS championship loss Jan. 6, head coach Brent Vigen told Burckley he wouldn't be able to kick or punt — other than in emergency situations — while remaining at WR, his primary position. Burckley will get a chance to compete at WR, kicker and punter at Western, he said."

I’m honestly surprised that Humphrey and Powdrell haven’t committed yet. When they left, it seemed like they had something lined up, but the longer this drags on, the more it makes you wonder. Powdrell leaving for a G5 school before he even gave the Cats a return on the investment they made into him is so epically lame. Of any of the portal departures, he most blatantly used MSU. Zero respect.

Portal players can sign with new schools at any time, it doesn't have to be on the National Signing Days that are used for High School and JC recruits. If a player doesn't sign with a new school in time to enroll for spring semester, then they'd either need to stay at MSU and take spring classes on their own dime, or maybe attend a JC closer to home to continue to accumulate credits towards maintaining their eligibility status for fall.

Believe it or not, some players would rather live in Las Vegas than in Bozeman. It could be as simple as that in addition to whatever NIL money he's getting, although UNLV was also one game away from a likely spot in the 12-team playoff. Playing in the Mountain West Championship game and then the LA Bowl is unquestionably a higher level of TV exposure than the FCS playoffs. We might care more about the latter than the former, but overall the TV ratings don't lie.

I've moved on to players that want to be at MSU. Good luck to Scottre and Andrew on their personal journeys because that's what they are...personal. I hope the money offers they received from outside agencies pushing them to enter the portal matched what they actually received in offers from those FBS schools. In Scottre's case, going from offers like UNC and Ole Miss to...New Mexico? Something happened there.
