Who said Bozeman? When is the last time any FBS team visited an FCS stadium? We beat them by 3 last year with the best team the bobcats have ever had. Not your acting like they wouldn't have a chance, you c'mon dude.

I thought I had said at home. Sorry.
However, I still think the Cats would beat them in ABQ this season.

Yeah, the Lobos don’t have a great program. I certainly wouldn’t fear them even with Eck and all their Big Sky transfers. The Lobos were also gifted 14 points in that game with the Cats and MSU put up 567 yards of total offense against them.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 10:55 pmI thought I had said at home. Sorry.

I posted this earlier about the Lobos NIL. They are going to always outbid an FCS program and many G5 programs.onceacat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 9:45 pmIt's hard to imagine that given an option to go to UNC or UNM, Scottre voluntarily chose UNM. I would guess they thought there’d be more opportunity when they originally left. That’s my suspicion.
Honestly, him and these other guys going to mediocre MWC teams might be great for our future portallers. The grass isn’t always greener.
And theres almost no chance it's about the money. Boise States NIL has a total budget of maybe $2m...No way that the Lobos come anywhere close to that. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire Lobos NIL (collective and various outside offers) was under $1m. Thats not a ton once you spread it between 22 starters & another 5-10 special team or key role players.
I think you are right. Its really hard to see how this is an improvement in ANY way for Scottre or Jon...maybe an extra $10-20k/year (which isn't nothing), but its a worse place to get noticed by scouts...and its a worse football environment.
Found this little gem, hopefully it gets some traction with FCS players.

Yup, since 2016. I think I counted 25 winning seasons in their entire football history dating back to 1931 and only 12 or 13 in the past 50 years.Lord Vigo wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:38 pmI think last year’s UNM team is the best they’ll have for quite some time.AFCAT wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:02 pmYeah, the Lobos don’t have a great program. Both UNM and Washington State, with new Coaching staffs from the FCS will be interesting to watch next year. Both Eck and Rogers brought in multiple current and newly recruited FCS players. How will they compete with Boise, Reno, OSU, etc? I see UNM opens with Michigan.

$3.5m across all sports doesn't really seem that huge tbh. Good for them, but theres still a 0% chance that Scottre is somehow doing better there than he would have at UNC.Cataholic wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 11:17 pmI posted this earlier about the Lobos NIL. But, yeah, so they can offer 25 or so football players $100k each? It's a good payday for a college kid, but it's not exactly life changing money. There are a lot of 20 year olds in Bozeman making that kind of money.

Are they though? I honestly think the 3 BSC backs they brought in are almost exactly the same types of backs. Physical, quick but not breakaway speed. None were used in the receiving game extensively. They certainly are not as different and Davis, Jones, and Henley will be next year for the Cats. In my mind they are 3 backs of the exact same type. I guess depth at the position is important but I honestly think we will will see one get the bulk of the carries and the other 2 waiting to give a breather or an injury.GoldstoneCat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2025 6:51 pmIs he better than Damon Bankston? Note that the featured picture is of the men’s basketball team. I would imagine a significant portion of that pie is going to MBB. I’ve always thought of New Mexico as more of a basketball school than a football school.onceacat wrote: ↑Sun Jan 26, 2025 10:54 pm$3.5m across all sports doesn't really seem that huge tbh. And why is it so hard for people to understand that he got a better deal at NM than other spots? They have a decent G5 NIL budget. Maybe UNC was interested but offered a conditional NIL where he had to attain benchmarks to even get paid.
You stated a 0% chance that he is better at NM than at UNC. How can you be so definitive? I am pretty positive that Scottre was looking for the best offer. I really doubt he thought, “UNC is offering me so much money, but I can’t pass up an opportunity to play at NM”.
Why can’t we just wish the kid best of luck. It is the new reality of college football. We are going to lose more kids to G5 programs because of NIL. I am not sure how the revenue sharing works, but I fully expect that G5 schools will be paying more to their players than FCS schools which will widen the gap even further.

Regarding the bolded, while I can absolutely understand why players leave to get paid, and really don't blame them for doing so, I guess I don't understand wishing them well either. It's kind of a silly discussion to have because I guarantee that not a single one of these transfer players care one bit about whether some guys on a message board "wish them well" or not. Personally I root for the players to do well after they leave MSU because I think it reflects well on the MSU program if they are successful at a higher level of competition. But everyone can have their own viewpoint on it.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 9:31 amRegarding the bolded, while I can absolutely understand why players leave to get paid, and really don't blame them for doing so, I guess I don't understand wishing them well either. Sure, I'll root for individual players to do well even if they're still in the Big Sky. I certainly won't actively root against a player or hope they perform poorly, life's too short to waste time on that kind of thinking and I don't take it personally in any way that they decided to transfer. If MSU and Idaho play each other in the playoffs again next season, I assume it goes without saying that I'll be cheering for MSU to win over cheering for Lonyatta Alexander to have a good game.tetoncat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 10:18 amDo you wish all to do well, even if they go to another Big Sky or FCS program, or only those who can't hurt the Cats in the futureMSU01 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 9:45 amIt's kind of a silly discussion to have because I guarantee that not a single one of these transfer players care one bit about whether some guys on a message board "wish them well" or not. The kid represented our school well. Worked his ass off for the blue and gold. The new reality is that we are a stepping stone for a paycheck, whether it is G5, P5 or pro. As an MSU alum, I love to see our kids prosper and do financially better for themselves. Shouldn’t we want good things for people we care for?BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 9:31 amRegarding the bolded, while I can absolutely understand why players leave to get paid, and really don't blame them for doing so, I guess I don't understand wishing them well either.

But, yeah, so they can offer 25 or so football players $100k each? It's a good payday for a college kid, but it's not exactly life changing money. There are a lot of 20 year olds in Bozeman making that kind of money.
Haven’t you said before that this is just football so I should lighten up? It would seem that this is a primary example of that exact advice. These are just kids trying to do better for themselves.

I get it, I don’t even disagree with you! I’m just petty.Cataholic wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 12:05 pmThe kid represented our school well. Worked his ass off for the blue and gold. At the end of the day, I just don’t want to wish them well. I’m not wishing them unwell either. They’re no longer Bobcats, I don’t care about them. And I hope their new coaches lose every game, because I’m an admittedly petty person.

I never cheer against a kid that leaves (in fact I think it is good for us if they do well) but I find myself cheering against their teams (like Cal for example).BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Mon Jan 27, 2025 12:48 pmI get it, I don’t even disagree with you!
