I refuse to belive one game less than a week before she entered the portal was the deciding factor. Especially if it came down to coaching decisions. Given the mentality of the team I just think there's no way that's the reason. As I think about it, with all the BS from the White house about Canada, I could see her wanting to be closer to home. That has to be tough to be out of your home country when something like this happens.
Aye, that’s got to be the reason and Dykstra is headed to Kamloops Technology Royal College & Picton will land at Thunder Bay Provincial University.
I'm not saying going back to Canada. I'm just saying closer to her parents. a college in upstate new York or PA would be closer to Natalie's home and if she wanted to go home more frequently. I'm sure after 9/11 a lot of people wanted to be closer to home. in no way am I comparing 9/11 to our current relations with Canada. Just pointing out how sometimes things happen that might make a person want to be closer to their parents.

Should we assume that since neither has announced any commitment, they weren't contacted by "an agent" before entering the portal and thus not a case of someone offering more NIL money and enticing them in to a preset landing ground? I mean didn't Darian pretry much immediately announce she was going to Nebraska?

I went back and found the thread from when Darian transferred, she entered the portal on March 28th and announced her commitment to Nebraska on April 18th. Even when there are agents/NIL offers involved, the school still has to wait until the player enters the portal to make an offer to them. As a player, I'd want to at least visit the school, have conversations with the coaching staff, and meet my future teammates before deciding to commit even if I had an idea where I was going to end up. And who knows, maybe better offers will come along once you're in the portal than the one that enticed you to enter in the first place.

It’s going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Will they get big offers? Remains to be seen. In my opinion not a guarantee.

Could it be that they just don't want to play without the seniors, worried about the team dynamic with those strong players gone, like Esme? Emotions and relationships can be quite different among women than men, and though publicly we saw and heard about a great team dynamic, maybe behind the scenes things were different. Also there are some good young players on the bench that could rise up and take some spots. Who knows? It certainly seemed like Dykstra and Picton were the automatic next up leaders for next year, guessing they saw that different, or it wasn't enough.

I think they both end up at possibly the same school as a package deal as I think they could help lower mid major team out quite well. I am still waiting to see if they end up at Santa Clara. Can you imagine them starting with the two girls from NAU as that would be a great start to a solid experienced team for a first year coach somewhere. She would know the talent level she is getting and I bet they have a little higher NIL deal than us. I hope they both land where they can both play significant roles and get what they want out of it. The harsh reality is that it doesn't always work out that way. In this day and age as much as I hate to say it I really don't blame them as I can't imagine making 20 to 30k while going to school. That kind of money would have been alot of fun in college. Anyways good luck to the girls and hope the best for them. If your against them I get it, but it is what it is in college sports these days. We can only hope that Binford can keep coming up with quality players year after year to fill the gaps as I bet we will continually see this occurr year after year.

Good Luck Girls!

Loree Payne creating a Big Sky all-star team at Santa Clara would be interesting and I'd guess that most of the NAU transfers will end up there, although Glancey in particular will have much bigger options than the West Coast Conference. I tend to think Marah and Natalie will look elsewhere than Santa Clara and don't necessarily think they intend to go to the same place. If I had to guess I can see Natalie going somewhere further east and closer to home and Marah potentially staying out west but looking for a higher-profile program, or maybe even going to Northern Colorado to play with her sister. I think it's safe to say that Natalie opened some eyes with that personal 10-0 run she had in the second quarter of the Ohio State game.

Natalie most definitely did and she should have been not been pulled in my opinion.

Maybe she was gassed and needed a break?

I doubt she was gassed although she had played the entire second quarter up to the point that she was taken out at the under-5 media time out break. Binford has always been pretty rigid with her substitution patterns, I feel like she plans out what she wants to do before the game and sticks to it even if it means taking out the "hot hand" sometimes. There's no reason why the players who were still in the game couldn't have scored a few baskets themselves and even so, MSU was only down by 5 at the half. The third quarter was the real killer.

Well said. Was sometimes mystified by pulling the hot hand but she does have the discipline to not differ. Can’t say I always agree with it but she’s the coach. And can’t argue with her success.

The other girls weren’t able to pick up Nat’s success in large part because their defenders were mostly quicker/faster. Natalie Picton was the one player that demonstrated the ability to dominate her defender with quickness, speed and agility. Ohio State players mentioned that they used a different defense in the second half, and Natalie was quite likely the catalyst and the focus for that. Morales had a number of good moments, too. Of the two similar guards, one seemed to have better success defending our quicks. Quite honestly, Natalie opened my eyes some more with that performance, and that’s what I was looking forward to seeing this fall.

Glancey had the best numbers but she was NAU's second-best player. Taylor Feldman was NAU's best player. If she wants to she'll end up somewhere big.

Also worth noting that Glancey's recruitment came down to NAU and Montana State when she was coming out of high school.

Could be but why would you risk moving to a culture that might turn out to be worse? A bird in the hand......

The way Natalie sounded in the presser after Ohio State i would say no. She sounded like she looked forward to playing and sounded every bit the leader we would've had next year. I just don't know.

I think the most telling sign about the reasons why Natalie and Marah left is going to be where they end up, once that information becomes known.

Do we know how much/if Title IX will factor in to House Settlement/NIL payments?

I have read conflicting information on this, the most recent indicating maybe they don't. I had thought there would be significantly less money to go around once you got outside of the top 15-20 programs in Womens Basketball, but maybe not?

The Department of Education under the previous administration said that Title IX does apply to the NIL Settlement and that the money should go proportionally to male and female athletes, but that guidance was reversed by the new administration. I'd guess that this is yet another question that will be resolved by the courts at some point in the future.

Hoping Marah and Natalie don't get caught in the confusion, could easily see a situation where a mid-major promises money, but then finds out they don't need to meet Title IX and pulls it back.
