I don’t think Mihelish is an FCS QB at a program like MSU or UM.

Why? Too inaccurate? Too slow? Not a winner? Too short? Too small? Not enough arm strength? Other quarterbacks on roster too much better?

Aside from cornerback, quarterback is probably the rarest position for a Montanan to start at. I can only think of six over the last 30 years and one of those only played QB for a year.

I think we can all spin up multiple narratives about the what/why/when/where/hows of it, but I'm just happy to see another top Montana high school recruit decide to come to MSU.

Let the gris continue to be try to be Sac State - North....I love how Vigen is building the program with top high school talent.

IMO, he knows he's nearing the end of his career and he desperately wants to win that one national championship before he retires. Using the transfer portal lottery and hoping you strike gold is a lot easier than actually recruiting and building your program for the long term like Vigen is doing at MSU.

Yep. And I see PR is spouting off about how the Cat football program is going downhill, lost so many good players and aren't hammering the portal hard like Hauck. It's going to be very disappointing for him and a lot of Griz nation to realize that Vigen has built a PROGRAM that does not rely on 30 drop downs per year to be competetive.

So, are you saying six since Dave Dickenson finished his career in 1995, which was exactly 30 years ago? For MSU, I can think of Rob Compson, Casey Harte(sp), Mark Desin, Troy Andersen, and Tommy Mellott. Desin and Harte were only part-time starters for one season each. For UM, I can only think of Andrew Selle and John Edwards, but I feel like I'm probably missing at least one or two. They must have had more than just those two in the last 30 years, right?

edit: I think Kyle Sampson started a few games for UM in the early 2000's. Maybe Justin Hartman from CMR too, during that same era? I know he played for them for a year or two before transferring, but I don't know if he ever started any games.

Also, I think both Jeff(?) Tuss and Todd Buchanan(sp) may have started a few games for MSU in the mid to late 90's? I know Tom was probably only counting those who actually started for at least most of one entire season, when he came up with six Montana QB's. Several of the names I mentioned only started a few games (or maybe even just one, in some cases), usually due to one or more other QB's being injured. and can't really be considered "starting" QB.

For UM another is Brady Gustafson…Smithwick-Haan but can’t remember think he only started due to injury though

Like I said, of the six I’m thinking of one only started for a year (Andersen), so not really considering anyone that just started a few games. Aside from Andersen, I had Dickenson, Edwards, Selle, Mellott, Compson. I forgot about Gustafson. So that’s 7 quarterbacks. It’s just rare for whatever reason. Mellott made a comment about there aren’t quarterback camps in Butte.

I thought Tuss was too. If I remember correctly, he originally committed to Univ. of Washington out of high school, but was drafted by the Montreal Expos to play baseball. Played 4 or 5 years in the minors and then went to Fresno State. Transferred to Montana State in 95 and became the starter but broke his wrist mid season. Was replaced at starter by Rob Compson the following year.

Jackson Presley sounds like an impressive young man, team player, lives his faith, and should be an asset to the football team both on and off the field. Elements of Tommy came through in that interview, also a man of faith and a great leader. Jackson could step into that role well I think.

He moved to Montana with offers from Florida State and Oregon as a freshman. He was the top rated frosh QB in the country. His parents are former soap opera/hollywood stars. He is one of the top QB recruits in the country….

That's a really interesting article. What really stands out to me is that Jackson was recruited by big name colleges AS AN 8TH GRADER! That's really impressive.

Wonder what made them relocate to Kalispell? This could have multiple benefits for MSU moving forward. Will he major in film studies following in his dad's footsteps?

Everyone hates the wealthy out-of-staters relocating to Montana until they happen to have a big-time QB recruit in the family who's willing to stay in the state to play college football! Anyone know of any actors with kids who are really good linebackers, we could use a few of them too...
