Only downside with that is it could be seen as a very attractive quality to interested parties that he's loyal to his guys, wonder if the Oklahoma State decision with Morris might have played a part and given him a bit of leverage.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 6:59 pmIt's starting to feel like that is going to be his rule at least until we win a championship (or he gets an offer that he can't refuse from a program that is worth breaking his rule for).

Re: Vigen is staying at MSU!
Possibly, but isn't this the same situation as last year? He had the WSU job, or at least was a finalist, but wouldn't abandon the team. This seems like a question OSU could have asked before being his travel agent and saved BN a lot of worry. They shouldn't have been surprised he would do this.Utcatsfan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 7:28 pmOnly downside with that is it could be seen as a very attractive quality to interested parties that he's loyal to his guys, wonder if the Oklahoma State decision with Morris might have played a part and given him a bit of leverage.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 6:59 pmIt's starting to feel like that is going to be his rule at least until we win a championship (or he gets an offer that he can't refuse from a program that is worth breaking his rule for).

Re: Vigen is staying at MSU!
He's really hung up on their lack of facilities. Like, dude, did you go to campus before you lunged for the job? Choate should do whatever Jason eck is doing or whatever matt entz is going, bc they're both running circles around him. I am planning to go to Reno next year to watch the Cats and Vigen beat them.Travelingcat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 6:38 pmVigen sticking around will be great for fundraising for the stadium expansion. Maybe if we can guarantee something big there in short order, he might be induced to stick around a bit longer.
Also, just as an interesting aside, don't count out Choate at Nevada. After starting 1-8, they've won their last two, including a 45 point blowout of a not terrible San Jose State team and a big road win at Wyoming. Assuming they lose at UNLV next weekend, they will end the year at 3-9, but their 2 conference wins will be up from zero last year and he inherited a bare cupboard. They lost 3 games by a FG or less, so they were reasonably competitive. The last coach was canned after just 2 years, and I really doubt the AD will want to have such a quick trigger again, especially as Choate is a program builder who improved his record every year he was at MSU. I'd expect Choate to have at least a couple of more years to show that he is the right guy for the job there.

I think this is testament to the culture our program has built. These guys bleed for each other.BlueAndGoldNation wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 5:42 pmI noticed that too. I'm sure that Vigen staying makes it more likely Lamson comes back next year. You never know though, he might get a crazy NIL thrown at him from other schools that would be too good to pass up. But maybe with his past experiences and disappointments at the FBS level, he sees MSU as the best situation for him to complete his college career. Winning a bunch like this season must be infectious to a guy who didn't win much in his previous collegiate seasons. Chambers was similar, said this place was the best thing to happen to him. I love these QBs we seem to keep finding!

You never know anything for certain in this portal era, but given how much of this team is in-state and how young most of the great OOS players are, I think there’s a real chance that the only guys who hit the portal are the ones who aren’t getting playing time. This is all taking for granted that Vigen really does come back for another season.

Interesting statement. I’m thrilled. But a little skeptical. The right opening could come open next week and he’s gone. Or is there more to this story I don’t know?

That would be great but there is one position group where I'd be happy if we got 50% to stay.MrGoodKat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:19 pmYou never know anything for certain in this portal era, but given how much of this team is in-state and how young most of the great OOS players are, I think there’s a real chance that the only guys who hit the portal are the ones who aren’t getting playing time. It's promising but there is nothing concrete about it (apparently skyline sports deleted an X post showing a booster internal email from the AD is sending fundraising emails to "help ensure" Vigen stays there long term) I'll honestly I'll only be happy once all the FBS jobs he's been mentioned for are filled.CalgaryCat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:03 pmRight now there’s no extra news, so yeah something like that is still on the table.

I know what you mean, but they’re all freshmen. If the coach and QB come back, they could return for another season and still cash in.coloradocat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 10:09 pmThat would be great but there is one position group where I'd be happy if we got 50% to stay.MrGoodKat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:19 pmYou never know anything for certain in this portal era, but given how much of this team is in-state and how young most of the great OOS players are, I think there’s a real chance that the only guys who hit the portal are the ones who aren’t getting playing time. I hope so, but I’m not going to be surprised if the Cats lose a starting offensive lineman or two and some DBs. I’m sure there will be other non-starters looking for playing time too. I have heard that there is a real effort being made to increase the NIL funds, so the Cats keep more players.MrGoodKat wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:19 pmYou never know anything for certain in this portal era, but given how much of this team is in-state and how young most of the great OOS players are, I think there’s a real chance that the only guys who hit the portal are the ones who aren’t getting playing time. Two years in a row he has been looking. If we hold on to him through the playoffs without another interview we might have a chance to win it all this year. However, next season he won’t stay for the playoffs. It’s obvious he wants a different job at this point

At this point he is being headhunted I’m sure. I don’t think it’s him actively looking for new roles. With that said, he could just be interviewing to use it as leverage to get MSU to bump his salary for the time being (possibly until his kids finish up college). From what I’ve heard they love Bozeman so that could be a strong reason to hang around for longer.catgrad05 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 12:36 amTwo years in a row he has been looking.
