General thoughts- think Vigen interviewing for Oregan State job and the general distraction that come with that played a part.
Taking Yale lightly also showed up.
Think this team needs to decide whether it wants to win a championship or not. The path is open to win it, but need to keep improving.
Last year felt like we were a smooth running machine - this year really clunky.
This. I was never worried about the outcome, but too many sloppy plays on the field (by most everyone)...lack of focus and intensity (2 Lamson fumbles)....poor decisions (like not batting down the INT on 4th down)...bad coaching (not going for it on 4th and inches at the 50 when you are averaging 6 yards per carry)...
It's not like Yale was ever in position to win that game, but they obviously came to play big man football & the Cats didn't. Cats only won because they have a lot more talent & depth than the other team.
Regarding Davis, the people sitting behind me said #7 from Yale, the defensive player who was trying to fight everyone the whole game, was going to punch Vigen and Julius jumped in to stop it and was going to fight the guy. Vigen pulled them apart, and some Yale players pulled their guy away. Julius was hot and going to the locker room and Vigen wouldn't allow that wanted him on the field with the team. Every player for the Cats, and coaches, were in that prayer circle, even Vigen knelt to pray. It was a chippy game, especially the 4th quarter. Think there will be a major come to Jesus meeting in the locker room.
That's not what it looked like on tv. I just watched the replay and it looked like Davis and 3 were mildly talking trash and Vigen could see where it was going when Davis wouldn't shut up and pulled him away. #4 had a parting comment as well and then Davis turned into a child.
I didn't see it but the folks sitting behind me said they saw the whole thing and #7 was going to take a swing. The look Vigen gave the Yale coach before going to the prayer circle was pretty intense.
if we play the gris we are cooked...we looked terrible they looked unstoppable...better hope south dakota can upset little brother.
What if we play well next week? Are we worthy then?
I would encourage everyone to go look at what happened the week after beating Mercyhurst only 17-0
I wore shorts and a tee shirt because the sun was out. What does that have to do with this though?
Despite the ugly win this team has demonstrated an ability this year to bounce back and play really well the week after almost laying an egg.
Bingo. Kinda surprise it needed to be explained.
Yeah, these are a bunch of 19 and 20 year old guys. They are going to have bad games. This was a good week to have a bad game.
I think people forget that NDSU has had a dude in almost every playoff run they've had. Specifically remember a 97win over i believe Illinois St a couple years ago. Great teams find a way to win on their "bad" days.

Totally. Jones a a DAY. Dowlers INT was huge. There were a lot of seasons where the Cats put really good teams on the field, but when it came time for someone to step up & bring it, there were crickets. This team has guys step up and make big plays on their off days.
I'm curious. Hopefully Skyline or someone can post a video.
The coach was reminding the press that his team just played 12 games in a row and are still students and are probably concerned about finals. i don't remember the exact comment but it was in that context. The "real" is what got me. A very Yale comment. Kind of inferring that everyone else is just a college kid but they are university students.
Comment is at 4:19. You can tell the intent by 7s reaction.
Showing pressure on fourth down in overtime. They bring pressure. Lamson throws...Endzone! Caught! TOUCHDOWN!!! Taco Dowler!
And a kick away from a championship.
Here we go. Miles Sansted. Snap, hold, kick, Up, GOOOOD!! FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
Heard their coach and players on the radio. Not impressed. Seemed rather smarmy to me. Very little respect shown to the opposing team.
Their team played tough today. We didn't have a great game but still won. They probably have been disrespected as an Ivy league school, they did have 12 games in a row, and it is difficult to balance school and sport, but they need to stop with the excuses. Our students have to deal with the classroom and finals as well--and many of them in subjects that are as difficult here as anywhere.
We did not play our best today, but Yale is just a good team. Getting number 23 (Nico Brown-- their best WR, who missed the Youngstown game, made a big difference for them. Reno is not sensational, but he's very good and made a few really big league throws. Kamara caused both of the fumbles from Lamson and both he and Pitsenberger showed they are NFL quality players. The other side always gets a vote. We were not at our best, but they are a good team-- as the broadcasters said-- as good as anyone we've played all season, and I suspect better than Stephen F. Austin.
This will be the first year since 2010 that a current FCS team who is not SDSU or NDSU will win the title (other two winners were Sam Houston and James Madison)-- the opportunity is ours for the taking-- just need to go after it. This game will be a good wake-up call.
I'm curious. Hopefully Skyline or someone can post a video.

Seems pretty spot on. Football players at other schools with Ivy League level academics like USC, Michigan, UNC, Duke, Stanford, Texas, etc mostly don't need to study for exams.
This isn't a secret or a surprise or in any way shocking. Its something every single one of us says all the time.

I know I've got an extra large chip on my shoulder as I'm subjectively dumber and objectively poorer than just about anyone who has attended Yale, but you can eat an entire bag of dicks if you think the academic programs at MSU aren't "real school."
ETA: I proved the dumber part with my original grammar!

You can't spell dUMb without UM and now you can't spell grizzLLies without 2 Ls.
I don't take the Yale coach's comment as being a shot directed specifically at MSU, but more of a statement of his support for his own players and the additional challenges they face. I have no doubt that it is a lot harder to balance academics and athletics at Yale than it is at most other universities.

Studying for finals at MSU is not the same as studying for finals at Yale. It just flat out isn't even close. Thats a bit like saying that MSU football is somehow on par with SEC football.
Football players at most football schools don't study for finals. Or at least they don't need to. At MSU they mostly do (or they did when I was a TA 25 years ago) because MSU isn't big time football.
I took it as a jab towards other schools, not towards MSU.

I don't think it was a shot at MSU specifically, but the rest of the FCS at large. It's Yale, not MIT. I'm sure there are plenty of Bobcat players that have a harder finals week than the Yale guys.

That was my interpretation as well. Thought he was boosting his kids for getting ready to play right before finals, not bashing MSU. The reality at Yale is that there is almost "nowhere to hide" for these students in terms of really easy classes. You are balancing very demanding football and very demanding academics. Nothing remotely comparable for major college football outside of Stanford and maybe Rice or Duke. Schools like Michigan, UNC or Florida are excellent academically, but they have plenty of "easy pass" courses for athletes if you know where to look. Just not true in the ivies.

One of my favorite things about FBS football is that theres still some reasonable balance between academics & athletics.
Everyone knows that nobody on the team at Georgia or Ohio State is studying for finals this week.
If you put on the YouTube Behind the Mic feed, it starts around 4:19:30. The context is that they played 12 games in a row, they played tough games, the playoffs are new, and “these kids go to school, I mean they go to real school, they are challenged academically, and they are worried about exams they need to get situated.”
...for today we raise, the BLUE and GOLD to wave victorious!... GO CATS GO!
