Tuning out distractions.

Post by wbtfg » Sun Dec 07, 2025 2:35 pm

This time of year has so many distractions with football, finals, coaches and players being contacted by other schools, then last week throw in Thanksgiving and signing day.

Hopefully this weekend served as a bit of a warning alarm on the importance of being 100% locked in.

Also maybe a good reminder for us fans not to add more drama to the lives of coaches and players.

So many distractions, but can't let it affect game day. Easier said than done for sure, and these are young 18-24 year old human beings. I have the upmost confidence that the adults in the room, the coaching staff, have handled all the crap from yesterday, and during the bye week, and will have this team totally prepared for Friday. The sky is the limit now, and they can taste the National Championship I'm sure.

Might’ve been a bye week thing. MSU has had a few rough games after byes in the past. Last year at EWU and title game. 2023 vs ndsu. 2022 at nau and vs Weber. 2021 at EWU and UTM. Even last year’s first round game was 21-10 late in the second quarter.

MSU - 17 team National Champions (most recent 2025); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Was talking with someone else about that too. They had this high after Cat-Griz, then a week to sit and lose that momentum. Getting that bye is an honor and a goal for playoffs but it might not be ideal for keeping momentum.

I would fully expect a better effort Friday. It's nice to be able to have a game where we didn't play well, looked distracted, whatever the hell happened Saturday, and live to tell the tale. Ndsu would vouch for that statement today. Time to get moved on to SFA and play a better game.

Absolutely this. On a related note, I wonder how last week's practices went. I didn't see any comments or reports from Vigen about that but I wouldn't be surprised if they did not have the best week of practice. Vigen, and a lot of other coaches talk about how they can usually tell how good the team is going to perform during the game, by how well they practice the week leading up to it. Here's hoping for a solid week of practice where the team gets some things cleaned up and ready for a brawl Friday night.

I hope the team is recovering from whatever they were ill from last week, and are ready to roll on Friday.

He said in his interview earlier today that they had a good week of practice.
