1. I think the fear around MT guys on the team is overblown. If that was an issue it would already be an issue but we're one of the top FCS teams in the country and 40% of the team is in state. The consensus outside of BN is that we would be competitive in the MWC if we moved up today as currently constructed. I think if we moved up our MT number may drop to around 30% but it wouldn't need to go any lower than that for quite a while (we wouldn't be a legit CFP contender for a while if ever).84CatGrad wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 9:45 amTwo other reasons I'm against moving up:
1. We typically carry around 40 Montana kids. That will go down. How much? I don't know but it will go down. No way do we get to watch an RJ Fitzgerald ever again.
2. You know all the fun we are having watching three home playoff games every year? Kiss that goodbye. Maybe we get a home conference championship game then its off to the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl on a Tuesday three days before Christmas.
Showing pressure on fourth down in overtime. They bring pressure. Lamson throws...Endzone! Caught! TOUCHDOWN!!! Taco Dowler!
And a kick away from a championship.
Here we go. Miles Sansted. Snap, hold, kick, Up, GOOOOD!! FOR A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

The Sagarin ratings currently have MSU as the #54 team in all of college football. The other teams immediately around them in the rankings are Minnesota (Big 10), Houston (Big 12), Boise State (MWC), Toledo (MAC), Mississippi State (SEC), and Cincinnati (Big 12). I think MSU could absolutely field a competitive FBS team with a Montana-heavy roster - because they're already doing it, just playing with that roster at the FCS level.coloradocat wrote: ↑Mon Dec 08, 2025 9:54 am1. Re: NDSU finally moving up soon? How would it affect us?
Here is another interesting video! Seems like things might be moving quicker for NDSU now that their season is over.
UC Davis, Tarleton, and NDSU seem to be getting a crazy amount of buzz lately for a move to the MWC. I could hardly imagine an FCS without NDSU. I can't complain about possibly becoming the new NDSU, but I don't think there will ever be another like them. Their dynasty over the last 16 years is disgusting.

Maybe they'll get invited to a bowl game since quite a few FBS programs are bailing on those now too. Not just players bailing on playing in bowl games, but entire programs now.

Yeah, so exciting to go play in some meaningless Toilet Bowl in some boring city with 20% of the stadium filled.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 10:14 amMaybe they'll get invited to a bowl game since quite a few FBS programs are bailing on those now too. I know your comment is filled with sarcasm, but if it was possible this season, I bet a ton of interest and NDSU fans would travel to such a bowl this season.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 10:14 amMaybe they'll get invited to a bowl game since quite a few FBS programs are bailing on those now too. If this happened and we were left behind, it would feel like we were the last kids our age left on the playground.BlueAndGoldNation wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 12:00 amHere is another interesting video! Seems like things might be moving quicker for NDSU now that their season is over.

Yeah, I'm sure we'd be in the playoffs a lot, continuing the trend of playing more and more teams that we need to google.

Despite all that most Bowl games have a larger TV audience then the FCS Championship game, last year was the 2nd highest rated in history and we were still behind a bunch of the Bowl games. Outside of a handful of schools and States with no FBS team FCS unfortunately is an afterthoughtaucat wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 10:35 amYeah, so exciting to go play in some meaningless Toilet Bowl in some boring city with 20% of the stadium filled.AFCAT wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 10:14 amMaybe they'll get invited to a bowl game since quite a few FBS programs are bailing on those now too. Now that they are gone we can finally win a NC, we were not going to beat those guys.

It's still hard to believe, really. The state's flagship program in a very large market in MT/Dakota terms.
I get SDSU's issues being pretty isolated in Brooking. But 10k for any game, let alone playoffs in Fargo is kind of an indictment of the fanbase.

Eh. Just a griz troll. The second I saw NDSU lose I knew that is all that would be said by griz fans. Especially if we win it all.
