I believe their intention was to honor and therefore incorporate the historic major bowls into the playoffs so they would keep their significance.

It's pretty wild to me how much social media has taken over, you've got guys making elaborate posts to enter the transfer portal but also to declare for the NFL Draft (when they're out of eligibility so...duh) and even announce that they're staying at their current school! With that being said, I'm probably just getting old and out of touch, I suppose it happens to all of us.
