Notice the date on the email he put in his announcement post! I doubt he's the only one who was already in the portal when the game kicked off last night. I won't go as far as to speculate that it affected anyone's performance, ISU has a damn good passing game.

They’re behind by 4 days compared to other players in entering the portal. Best of luck to Seth.

Re: Portal Recruits
I don't think anyone on D did enough last night to get more or better offers than what they would have already gotten. Lamson, Taco, and Steele likely did.NewEra wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 8:21 amI have no inside knowledge but my guess is we loose 6-10 guys to the FBS. I thought that before last night but now with how much publicity this game has received their offers probably just got bigger. We should be able to reload though. Hopefully we can retain taco. I’m now worried about loosing Steele. Hopefully his close roots to Montanan being from Wyoming keeps him here another year

Re: Portal Recruits
Maybe. Thought it was Johnson.
Wish we could hold the DB group for 3 years where they had a couple left to play elsewhere. Size is what kept them from FBS offers in many cases, but losing players is a product of success.

Not gonna sugar coat it, or be as nice as you. Glad he helped win a chipper……. But 1 year and done is pretty damn weak in my opinion.
I hate the current portal/NIL structure with the power of 1,000 suns. Hahaha

I don't think he committed. He just said he'd be there. Probably for an in person NIL discussion.Montanabob wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 12:04 pmAn hour later her comited to utahmslacatfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:59 am

Was Justin Lamson pretty weak when he left Syracuse after his redshirt freshman year? Just curious the rules to this.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:59 am

I don't remember the specifics of his exit from Syracuse but I think you can make the argument that both of Lamson's transfers were more like when our depth guys transfer out for an opportunity to see the field, not to cash in. I don't think anyone faults a backup/scout for going to Tech.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 12:29 pmWas Justin Lamson pretty weak when he left Syracuse after his redshirt freshman year? I'm not sure I would call Seth "weak" but his move isn't comparable to what Lamson's.

I think it generally boils down to players wanting to compete and play at the highest level they can. Some have to move down to do so, some are able to move up and challenge themselves further.coloradocat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 12:39 pmI don't remember the specifics of his exit from Syracuse but I think you can make the argument that both of Lamson's transfers were more like when our depth guys transfer out for an opportunity to see the field, not to cash in. Nothing we can do about it. Best we can do is hope these guys play their butts off for us, and not only get great NIL offers but excel at the next level. This will ensure a steady and talented pipeline of athletes coming here. As a fan it stinks, and I can’t imagine it’s easy for the MSU staff either.mslacatfan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 11:59 am

We're recruiting really talented freshman every year. Byproduct of the new system. We have a standard. And we'll be just fine at corner. Re: Portal Recruits
I think with younger ones some want to move so they can see field and get opportunity to go up. That can be financial gain, competition level or both. OP mentioned one and done. Lamson doesn't fit that. 2 years at least at each stop.BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 12:52 pmI think it generally boils down to players wanting to compete and play at the highest level they can. Re: Portal Recruits
I think a program like MSU can get talented HS now who feel they will see field quicker vs going G5 and sitting. Netter opportunity to move upVimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 1:27 pmWe're recruiting really talented freshman every year. Byproduct of the new system. We have a standard. OP referenced Seth Johnson when he said one and done. How long has Johnson been here?tetoncat wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 4:34 pmI think with younger ones some want to move so they can see field and get opportunity to go up. Both Johnson and Williams were class of 2024 recruits and played this year as redshirt freshmen.

Same with McMillan. Only one who didn't start this year was Boyd. If we can find a way to retain Carr for his senior season, that'll be a great start at corner. But again we have a ton of talent coming up in terms of the redshirted this year and who we just got signed for 2026.
Retaining Trenton Greene likely is not the long game as he is a rising star in coaching circles. Wouldn't be surprised if Coach Shep gets a promotion to a FBS school as well. Might need to replace both players and coaches from the secondary in 2026. In Vigen we trust.

Re: Portal Recruits
No source but I'm assuming Tayden Gray is getting offers too. If he does leave, we are in great hands with Bryant Meredith or JJ Dolan. Meredith was great in the Natty as was Gray. Luke Oxarart also impressed on the scout team at nickel as a true freshman. Nickel will be in a good spot regardless.
