Just got back home, definitely see a bunch of different things re watching the game on TV versus live. Just a couple hot takes that really stuck out.

All those false starts were just really freaking bizarre... no idea what was going on there. NINE of them? The ones where JT moved before snapping the ball, I just really can't wrap my head around that. How does that happen? He also snapped it when he shouldn't have a couple times? One last point on all this, the last one called, against Zimmer, was absolutely a ghost call, unless I am completely out of my mind. I re watched it several times, in slow motion, did not see anything. Weird. If not for all those, and some other fluky plays that didn't go our way, this game could have been a blowout, despite what all the dark pinkers are saying.

Last annoying takeaway for now, the announcer (Not sure if it was Brock) said it was our SECOND national Championship. Do some research. It's NUMBER FOUR!
Julius Davis had that false start from the backfield. Should not have been called on Zimmer but it was a false start.

That noted, I don’t know how they overcame 9 false starts and still won the game.

Seattle to Billings to Missoula to Bozeman to Portland to Billings

What a ride

On the last penalty, the only thing I could pick out was that it looked like Zimmer was sucking air, and just breathing heavy. We looked so shaky at times but pentalties was a trend all year we just never really dealt with it.

2025 Penalties - Bobcats/opponents
Total-Yards 103-785 68-564

I really thought that we would be the better prepared team this year given our experience, but you have to give it to ISU as they executed almost flawlessly. They certainly had some studs that showed up for battle. I really think the special teams play seemed to be the biggest difference maker. Other than that we were really well matched. From coverage, returns, and obviously the two of three blocked kicks on the year when it mattered most, swung the game in our favor.
I think the weight of so much expectation is heavier than we think. A lot of ISU players were probably surprised to make the playoffs let alone be playing for it all in in the Championship. Their base was mostly thrilled either way. We had 15k travel across the country for what many considered a coronation 41-years in the making. I look forward to how we start to perform in this next era with that 800lb gorilla finally off our back.

This is something I’ve been thinking about in the last 24 hours. Did the weight of 41 years somehow have something to do with the second half struggles?

I mainly think it was Dowler going out. But, I don’t know. Maybe.

Dowler didn't help for sure. But then the offense began to panic and falter as well. It's part of what makes momentum so huge in football. When the D has confidence that the O is going to take the ball back and drive and keep the pressure on, it's easier to play loose and confident.

Once Illinois scored to close the gap again and the offense responded with 3-and-outs, the already-crushing pressure multiplies.

I also still have some feeling though that ISU didn't like how our offense mostly had its way in the 1st half and said "what the heck" and started with some snap count shenanigans again, feeling like they had nothing to lose.

None of the penalties helped, obviously, but the one that really felt like a gut punch and very meaningful for momentum was the roughing the kicker penalty that gave them a first down. Our defense was starting to tire and if we could have gotten off the field there it felt like it would have had a huge impact.

I don't know, I don't think there were many other mistakes, OTHER than the unheard of NINE false starts. That was just like some freakish glitch in the universe, like the Weber snaps over the punters head four times. It's just perplexing for a team like this, that always preaches mental toughness, next play, flush the last one and focus, etc. Again, they are normally very good at this other than false starts, that plagued us WAY too much, especially throughout the playoffs. I trust Vigen will have this problem corrected in 2026.

Second FCS championship. I don’t get why they are making that the mark, but I see gris fans doing the same thing. Like the other championships didn’t count somehow. It’s just stupid.
You know what else is two? The amount of times we best them this season. So they can STFU.

Biggest takeaway defensively in the 2nd half: sure would've been nice to have a healthy Caden Dowler. Petre battled but it was tough out there for the back end of our secondary. However, that's why it's a team game where you have to MAKE PLAYS to win these games and we made a few more.
I think on the first long pass of the game into the endzone, Caden normally picks that if he has use of both arms.

JT had the yips, i guess, or was getting messed with by their shifts and jumps toward the line maybe coupled with some simulating by them that wasn't getting called. I agree i think we get at least one more score in the middle stretch of that second half and the game never gets close, if we don't false start so much.
Took us completely out of our run game in the 2nd half.

I don't get why people care what griz fans say. We won a natty fellas. And any rival wanting to minimalize it is just little brother energy. Its in the books and noone can take it away. They're hurt because we beat then twice, we had college game day a few years ago, theyre 2-8 in the last 10, and we just won a natty. I could care less what any griz fan says if they aren't saying congratulations.

two things: 1. I have never looked at Egriz because I don't care what they are talking about there.
2. Frankly I think it's stupid to chant "ESG" when we are NOT even playing the griz? It's like admitting that the griz
are inside our heads and we can't get rid of them. I don't care if we chant it WHEN we are actually playing them (maybe not
in a volleyball game or women's basketball game--JMO) but why do it when we are playing Illinois State for the damn NC??
Totally agree, and we need to STOP playing Mony Mony. It is not our anthem or school song!!

Couldn't agree more. Was reveling in the win Monday night when Mony Mony came on. The thought ran through my head - why are we chanting about them? I haven't thought about them for days and I'd rather it stay that way. They are irrelevant. We finished their season and sent them home weeks ago.

And then I went back to partying. I know I'm not going to convince people to quit it so I won't dwell on it. I just think it's weird.
