Another takeaway I had was how many plays we DID make throughout the entire game. For example, Kade Boyd made a huge tackle on special teams when we had to punt at the end of the 4th to make sure that it went into overtime. Stuff like that happened the entire game. Even defensively we put them in tough spots to convert in the 2nd half and Rittenhouse just made a great throw and read. An incredible game and chess match...and overall just a test of wills from the players on the field.

Several of our Montana media West of the divide are REALLY focusing on the stats and things ISU did to lose the game instead of what MSU did to WIN the game but I'm not going to be a sore winner. This is one of the most resilient teams I've ever seen and Vigen deserves all of the coaching awards for figuring out how to get us back to this game after graduation/attrition happened last January. If you really just go through it, it's pretty incredible we won the whole thing 5 days ago.

Yes. His best coaching job yet. And Illinois state can make plays, there's a team to the east that can vouch for that. Wasn't like we gave up a comeback to eastern Washington or some egregious thing like that. We were one drive from running and hiding with that game and they stopped that drive 2 different times. Of the 24, 25, and 26 versions of the Bobcats, if you'd asked me in August, this was the least likely to win a national championship and here we are.

100%. I keep hearing about a play or two, how lucky we got, if ISU just would have gotten one more play, etc. When I re watch that game, it is insane now many times the Cats could have made just one more play or two, or stopped shooting themselves in the foot and it literally could have turned into a blowout.

The best part of those people prognosticating about the what ifs and the one more plays, is that it doesn't matter because we're NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!! Every team, especially the losers, can play the what if game all year. We played the what if game for 8 months after last year's championship game. We had people playing what ifs, especially about the defense this season, even when we were winning games! Shoulda coulda woulda. We damn well did!!!

The one more play thing is coach talk for the kid that screwed up on the last play, to be able to move on about it.

Fify

I agree with Spack that the game comes down to any of maybe 15 different plays that if they win the game.
Add 3XISU players sitting behind me that now Coach.
ISU made place to stay in the game. We were one play away from blowing the game wide open and would’ve changed the whole game to a blowout I believe.
Biggest X factor was the nine false starts,
One and possibly even two of them were phantom calls.

Like another poster said we made the plays that counted and won the game. Champions find ways to win.

THIS

Apparently,
1) We were lucky to win the game/given to us with ISU mistakes,

2)this is the best thing that could happen to the Griz,

3) MSU fans were partying the weekend before the game so we already felt like we had won.

I don't think any of this is true.

1) we made a lot of plays, and some things went ISU's way (fumble in the end zone), some of the penalties

2) this game has nothing to do with the Griz, guess what they weren't in the game, why even talk about them, they are irrelevant

3) no one I talked too was taking this game for granted

Also, I think the narrative from Western MT media that the MSU football team is a power now because of the Griz is complete ******.

We want to be the best at everything. And since Pres. Cruzado came to MSU, our football program would be at the exact same spot if there were no Griz. Now I can see giving some credit to NDSU, that is the team we have been trying to beat. Again, the Griz are currently irrelevant.

I find reading efizz to be quite entertaining. There is a lot of sour grapes.
Hoops and the rest of the posters sure have a lot to say about a game booby and the fizz were not part of. The gnashing of teeth, crying about luck, etc. is quite amusing.

Even though it’s a good problem to have, we scored too quick in the first half. No slow methodical, draw out the clock drives, which resulted in our defense spending a lot of time on the field. Then in the second half, they had long slow drives. TOP was a big factor in that game.

If we go up by 21 in that game, ISU's ball control offense goes out the window. Had zero issue with us being explosive. It's a great way to counter what ISU wanted to do. In the 2nd half, our offense just couldn't find its rhythm.

Partially. Cats scored quickly but couldn't get off field quickly. PI or run into punter extended a couple non scoring drives for ISU

Yep. Flip our 2nd drive in 3rd with our 1st and it changes the dynamic of what they feel they can do

I like this challenge…..

With success comes attention, with attention comes cockiness, with cockiness comes arrogance, with arrogance comes rudeness...and they wonder why I hate the Griz ! FTG

Much like the cat/gris 1.0 there were several calls that could have influenced the game either way. The fumble TD for one
and there was a personal foul call against Crews in the 4th for hands to the face…he was completely molested with both hands to the face by the lineman first. It would have been fourth down, instead a fresh set of downs. A weak holding call on us when their lineman fell over the top of Fleischmann.

Also, the narrative that Osweiler was promoting during the game that the ISU fans were so noisy that they were creating the false starts is a bit comical.
